Principal's Message

Justine.png

We welcome all of our families to the new school year and are looking forward to working together as a community to provide every opportunity for our students to succeed. A special welcome to those families that are new to IEPS whether they are starting in Prep or in other year levels throughout the school.

We welcomed the return of our students to school last week and it was very exciting to see them reconnect with their friends and start to build their classroom learning communities.  Our teachers are to be congratulated on their preparation for a successful start to the year. Thank you to our students who supported new students into their classroom so that they feel welcome and familiar within the school.

I was thrilled to see our prep students arrive for their first day of school on Monday. This is always such an exciting day and we are grateful to the prep teachers for providing a smooth transition into IEPS.

Thank you to all of the teachers, members of the Leadership Team and support staff for their work to ensure that smooth start to the school year.

    School Council

This year there will be 4 Parent Member vacancies on School Council. These positions are for a two year term. We are also filling a casual vacancy for 12 months. Some points to note:

    • School Council meets twice a term at school on Wednesday evenings – 7.30 pm start and finishing no later than 10.00pm.
    • All School Councillors must be involved in at least one School Council subcommittee as well as being present at school events throughout the year.
      • Sub-Committees include:
        • Finance
        • Community Engagement
        • Canteen
        • Facility and Grounds
        • Policy
      • Members are elected for 2 years. School Council has fifteen members and the composition is:
        • Eight Parent Members (only two may be DET employees) - 4 positions falling vacant each year
        • Five DET Employees, one being the Principal who is the executive officer of School Council - two positions falling vacant each year
        • Option of two co-opted Community Members as determined by School Council at its March meeting

You need no special experience – but rather:

    • An interest in your child’s school and a willingness to be involved in the whole school.
    • A desire to work in partnership with parents and the school’s leadership team to support the school and shape its future
    • A desire to work with the wider school community to positively promote the school and its activities.

A call for nominations will be issued tomorrow and nomination forms can be collected from the school office. These need to be returned to the office by Thursday the 11th of February.
