WORKING BEE
On Sunday the 5th of December a group of about 10 families attended the School working bee. The aim of the afternoon was to weed and mulch “The Banks” along Robin Hood Road.
This large area was planted by the students from Prep to Grade 6 during Term Two. Over 2000 small indigenous tube stock plants from VINC nursery have grown significantly since then, due to good rain over the Spring. A committed group of parents worked hard all afternoon to remove invasive weeds whilst students filled and emptied buckets of mulch and wheel-barrows to help protect and nourish the native plants over the Summer months. Dianella longifolia grasses were planted at various water run-off sites. These were provided by the Banyule council to help bind the soil. A BBQ was cooked by two Grade 6 students followed by icy-poles. The weather was
superb and it was nice to see families chatting away whilst working. It is a busy time for families so a huge thank you to those who came along. If you couldn’t make it this time, we look forward to seeing you in Term One, 2022 so keep an eye out in the Bulletin. Getting involved in working bees is another great way for the kids and parents to meet new people. No gardening knowledge is required!
