Covid Update
Notification of Positive Cases
If staff or students receive a positive test result at any time, they must report this through the Department of Health system (Rapid antigen tests | Coronavirus Victoria) or via the coronavirus hotline at 1800 675 398.
Students (or their parents) must also report a positive result to the school office, by written notification to the ivanhoe.east.ps@education.vic.gov.au and tom.boyle@education.vic.gov.au this is so we can record that they will be absent while in 7-day isolation, provide support and learning materials as needed, and let the rest of the school community know there has been a positive case onsite and that they should monitor for symptoms.
Students and staff who test positive and thus complete their 7-day isolation period are not required to participate in the RAT screening for 12 weeks after their release from isolation. In addition, if a staff member or student has recovered from COVID-19, they are not required to get tested or isolate/quarantine if re-exposed to a case within 12 weeks of ending their isolation period.
Air Purifiers
We have received our final allotment of Air Purifiers. A massive thank you to Greg, Adrienne, Amanda and Tanya for their help in distributing these around to all learning spaces. This is one of the covid safe measures still in place to provide a safe learning environment for our students.
Enrolments
We thank you for the families who have already submitted their enrolments. We are asking that all in zone or sibling claim enrolments are submitted to the office as soon as possible so we can follow through with the correct selection process. A reminder that the selection process is as follows:
- Students for whom the school is the designated neighbourhood school
- Students with a sibling at the same permanent address who are attending the school at the same time
- All other students in order of closeness of their home to the school.
To follow this selection priority order, we need to know how many in zone and sibling families are enrolling before we can offer places to those residing outside our area.
NAPLAN
From the 10th May, students in Grade 3 and 5 will complete NAPLAN testing as a means of measuring literacy and numeracy skills that are essential for every child to progress through their schooling. Students will complete online testing in the area of reading, writing, conventions of language and numeracy. These assessments provide an opportunity to understand how students are performing and it provides the school the opportunity to reflect on our teaching and learning programs and ensure we are providing outstanding opportunities for our students to learn and progress.
Over previous weeks, students in Grade 3 and 5 have had opportunities to undertake online testing to simulate the NAPLAN experience and teachers have provided a terrific platform for our students to be comfortable with the tests and the conditions in which they are undertaken.
Nothing further is required to be done by families or at home, we ask that you reiterate with your child during this time that this is just a once off test and doesn’t stipulate their report and/or grade. We encourage that you give them an opportunity to focus on other areas of their schooling, social and sporting activities to provide a nice balance during this time. The Department of Education and Training advocates that NAPLAN is environment for schools to reflect on their programs, teaching and learning and instructional approach. It provides a benchmark to review, reflect and improve, it is not intended to be a high stakes testing environment for students.

The Life Education program will be visiting all year levels over the next three weeks for sessions focusing on health and wellbeing with the famous giraffe ‘Healthy Harold’.
Life Education has been supporting the physical, social and emotional wellbeing of children and young Australians for over 40 years. They do this by delivering best practice and curriculum aligned programs to thousands of preschools and primary schools reaching over 700,000 children aged 3-13 every year. Life Education partner with schools to deliver interactive and fun educational lessons that empower children and young people to make safer, healthier and happier choices.
The program will be held in classroom spaces rather than the normal Life Ed van. Each level will be enjoying the following programs:
Prep – My Body Matters
Year 1 – Harold’s Friend Ship
Year 2 – Safety Rules
Year 3 – All Systems Go
Year 4 – Cyberwise
Year 5 – Cyberwise
Year 6 – Relate, Respect, Connect

Anzac Day
Last week all classes commemorated Anzac Day through a range of classroom activities. We had arranged to have members of the community who have served/currently serving in the army come and speak with the children, unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances this was unable to occur. We have engaged with them to come back for Remembrance Day later this year. The year 6 leaders are currently creating a video of them commemorating Anzac Day that we will share with our community towards the end of this week.
Happy Ramadan
Last Sunday the 1st May marked the end of Ramadan for our Islamic community members. Ramadan Mubarak (Happy Ramadan!) to our Islamic community.

The IEPS Environment Club has been running since August 2019 and consists of
parents and students who care about sustainability and the environment. The group
has received multiple grants for works, with students, around the school grounds and
meets most Fridays, after school, around the veggie patches next to the 5/6 building.
Depending on the day (and the weather), parents and students tend to the veggie
boxes, mulch, compost, pick up litter, water or weed. Other days we simply just chat
to share ideas or make new connections while students play around the school. We
also organise weekend working bees which help to keep our school looking good. If
this sounds like something of interest please come and say hi on a Friday after
school or get in touch with Carly 0419552870 to get on the Whatsapp group. No
gardening experience necessary. All are welcome.
Below are some "Before and After" photos of "The Banks" biodiversity planting project that the students completed, taken one year apart.
