Infectious Disease Updates
Since our last newsletter we have had 5 confirmed cases of Covid 19 on-site while infectious. Even though our numbers are starting to drop we still have active cases in our community. We remind you to please be diligent on not sending your child to school when they are unwell. There are many illnesses, including Covid going and we have members of our community who are defined as being immune compromised. A friendly reminder that it is a collective effort in making sure that the school environment is as safe as possible for our entire community.
Enrolments
We are currently preparing our Pre-Prep session and Parent Information Night for our 2023 Foundation students.
Even if you have an older daughter or son currently attending IEPS you are still required to fill in an enrolment form.
If this relates to you and/or you know of someone looking to enroll for Foundation 2023 at IEPS, they will need to submit their enrolment as soon as possible to be able to attend the Prep session this coming Friday the 19th of August and the Parent Information Night on the 30th of August.
Not at IEPS in 2023
If your child/children will not be returning to Ivanhoe East Primary School next year please advise us as soon as possible. This information assists with staffing and planning the number of classes at each year level.
2022 Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey
On Monday each family would have received an individualised letter inviting them to complete the survey. This letter includes all the details on how to access and complete the survey. The letter was accompanied with a Compass notification that also went out on Monday to all families. We encourage all families to participate in this survey as results will be used to celebrate targets that we have been able to reach as well as inform and direct our future school planning and improvement.
The survey results from parents/caregivers/guardians will be used to reflect on our 2022 annual targets & goals as well provide valuable information to help create our 2023 goals. If you require any further information or have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me.
The survey will be open until Friday 16th September.
A friendly reminder that if you any feedback that you believe the school needs to immediately be aware of you are encouraged to contact the school directly.
Variance to School Day (Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences)
Thursday September 8th is our scheduled Variance to School Day. This is not a typical school day, instead it is a pupil free day so our Parent Teacher conferences can occur between 12.00 – 8.00 pm. Families of students in year F-3 will be offered a 10-minute time slot for a Parent-Teacher conference. Families of students in year 4-6 will be offered a 15-minute time slot where a Parent-Teacher-Student conferences will occur, noting that the expectation is the year 4-6 students attend their conference.
Our Variance to School Day will be run online via Webex. We would encourage most families to engage with their conference online, however if you feel it is necessary to meet face-to-face that can be arranged. More information around the booking process will be available next week via Compass and further information will be provided in next week’s Bulletin.
Late Arrivals/Early Pick-ups/Yard Supervision
During the school day, all teachers take their duty of care very seriously and work closely together to ensure students are supervised whilst in classrooms and also out in the playgrounds.
In our planning, we have the school divided into distinct zones and staff are assigned to each of these areas from 8:45am before school, through each recess and lunchtime, as well as after school until 3:45pm.
To ensure that students are appropriately supervised, we ask that students arrive at school after 8:45am each morning. If your child/ren arrive at school prior to 8:45am, it is important to understand that they will not be supervised until yard duty teachers begin their assigned duty from 8:45am. Similarly, at the end of the school day, the school will ensure the appropriate supervision of all students until 3:45pm and after this time it is the responsibility of parents to collect / supervise their children. In further support of parents on this important matter, OshClub (out of school hours care) programs provide wonderful levels of care for students.
For students who arrive after 9.00 am parents are required to sign them in at the front office via the Compass Kiosk. If you are requiring an early pick-up, parents need to report to the office and sign their child out also via the Compass Kiosk. If parents have not notified the teacher of the early arrival and pre-arranged for the student to be waiting at the office at a nominated time, then parents should advise office staff who will contact the classroom and arrange for the child to be sent to the office.
I urge families to reflect on their drop off and pick up routines, especially in light of the incident that recently occurred in a similar socio-demographic to Ivanhoe East less than 15 minutes away, where a student was grabbed by an unwanted adult as he caught a tram home from school at 3.45pm.

Enrolments for Prep in 2023 are open and we are now finalising grades for the coming year. Enrolment forms may be downloaded from the link below.
When lodging the enrolment form, we need to sight the original birth certificate and current immunisation history statement, which are school entry requirements.
Well done to everyone who competed in the Athletics Day that took place on the 4th of August, which was perfect timing as it was right in the middle of the Commonwealth Games. Also a massive congratulations if you were able to make it into the Districts Athletics team. People competing in Triple jump, and the relay have been busy practicing on the oval.
A reminder that Districts is taking place on the 22nd of August, and will last for the whole day.
Good luck to the Athletics team on Monday!

Over the winter months the school have accumulated a large amount of unnamed of jumpers in lost property. Today after school these items of clothing will be available for parents to take home. The clothing will be located outside the Library on a trestle table. If your child has previously lost any item, including drink bottles and other clothing, please take the time to visit the lost property area.

BOOK WEEK PARADE & CHANGE OF DATE
The Book Week Parade has been changed to Thursday the 25th of August.
The theme for Book Week 2022 is “Dreaming with Eyes Open”. This theme acknowledges Australia's First Nations People and their rich story based culture.
The date for Book Week this year is from Saturday 20 August to Friday 26 August 2022.
Each year, many schools and public libraries from all over Australia spend a week celebrating books and Australian authors and illustrators. We have already begun this celebration in the library at IEPS with a display of the CBCA Shortlisted Books with an accompanying activity packet.
At IEPS we will be celebrating Book Week with a Book Week Character Parade for all students and staff.
For our Book Week Character Parade, all students are encouraged to dress up as a favourite book character. Children are also encouraged to bring their book along to school with them if possible.
Parents are invited to attend the parade.
Where: IEPS basketball courts
When: Thursday 25 August 2022
Time: 9:15am
Wear: Book character costume
If any students choose not to dress as a book character, they can wear their normal school uniform. Please note that the costume does not need to be too elaborate. We would encourage parents to use dress-up clothes from home for the event.
