Infectious Disease Updates
Since our last newsletter we have had 6 confirmed cases of Covid 19 on-site while infectious. Even though our numbers are plateauing we still have active cases in our community. We remind you to please be diligent on not sending your child to school when they are unwell. There are many illnesses, including Covid going and we have members of our community who are defined as being immune compromised. A friendly reminder that it is a collective effort in making sure that the school environment is as safe as possible for our entire community.
Enrolments
We are now actively trying to finalise our workforce plan for 2023 which is directly related to our incoming enrolments for 2023. If you or someone you know is planning on enrolling their child (which is required even if they have a sibling at the school) at IEPS and hasn’t already done so we would appreciate their enrolment as soon as possible. You or they will need to be officially enrolled to attend the Parent Information Night, next Tuesday the 30th of August. More information will be sent to all enrolled families tomorrow regarding the Parent Information Night.
Not at IEPS in 2023
If your child/children will not be returning to Ivanhoe East Primary School next year please advise us as soon as possible as this information also assists with staffing.
2022 Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey
On Monday each family would have received an individualised letter inviting them to complete the survey. This letter includes all the details on how to access and complete the survey. We ask all families to participate in this survey as the survey results from parents/caregivers/guardians will be used to celebrate achievements made towards our 2022 goals, as well provide valuable information to help us create our 2023 goals.
The survey will be open until Friday 16th September. If you have misplaced your code please contact the school office and it will be reissued to you.
A friendly reminder that if you have any feedback that you believe the school needs to immediately be aware of you are encouraged to contact the school directly.
Staffing Updates
Schools in the Banyule network will be receiving funds in 2023 related to the Mental Health Royal Commission. These funds will help us employ an individual who will have the expertise to help further support our students, staff and wider community and will be a welcome addition to our School Wide Positive Behaviour Framework. This recruitment process is currently underway and we will inform our community once this has concluded.
We also concluded the recruitment process today to find a suitable replacement for 5H, once this has been finalised we will communicate directly with our Year 5 community. We want to thank Robyn Gilmour for stepping in and supporting 5H while we worked through the recruitment process.
Please note that Amanda Dwyer will be on LSL for the next two weeks and will be unavailable via email. If you require any assistance or support that Amanda has been providing please email myself at Tom.Boyle@education.vic.gov.au and Adrienne Dudley at Adrienne.Dudley@education.vic.gov.au
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank you for your understanding and support as we continue to navigate our way through the challenging environment that schools are facing related to a limited pool of replacement (CRT) staff available for schools.
Variance to School Day (On-line Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences)
Thursday September 8th is our scheduled Variance to School Day. This is not a typical school day, instead it is a pupil free day so our Parent Teacher conferences can occur online between 12.00 – 8.00 pm. Families of students in year F-3 will be offered a 10-minute time slot for a Parent-Teacher conference. Families of students in year 4-6 will be offered a 15-minute time slot where a Parent-Teacher-Student conferences will occur, noting that the expectation is the year 4-6 students attend their conference.
Our Variance to School Day will be run online via Webex. We would encourage most families to engage with their conference online, however if you feel it is necessary to meet face-to-face that can be arrange. More information around the booking process will come out via Compass tomorrow the 25th of August at 4pm.
- Please note that 5H have already conducted these interviews and 6F’s interviews will be occurring on Tuesday the 6th of September due to Ms. Foster attending State School Spectacular on the 8th of September.
Pyjama Day
Next Friday the 2nd of September we will be having a Pyjama Day to support little people with BIG Dreams through the National Pyjama Day Fundraiser.
Please help us reach our fundraising goal so more kids in care can receive the support they desperately need. Kids in care often bounce from home to home and to different schools which adversely affects their ability to learn and thrive.
Together, we can help to break the cycle of disadvantage experienced by kids in care through continuous stable support and nurturing relationships. Money raised through this fundraiser will allow community mentors called “Pyjama Angels” to be recruited, screened, trained, and then matched with a child in care. Together they read books, play educational games, do home-work and so much more. Most importantly, they empower children with learning, life skills and confidence to reach their full potential.
On the 2nd of September we will be having a school wide Pyjama Day, we will be wearing our PJ’s and raising funds to support kids in care. You can play a part too, by donating and bringing in your gold coin donation. Every bit counts!
If you would like to make an individual donation to this great cause please click the link below:
This day was initiated by our Principal Advisory Group and a special mention to Oliva T and Isabel W for creating the poster attached below and bringing awareness to this great cause.

BOOK WEEK PARADE & CHANGE OF DATE
The Book Week Parade is tomorrow - Thursday the 25th of August.
The theme for Book Week 2022 is “Dreaming with Eyes Open”. This theme acknowledges Australia's First Nations People and their rich story based culture.
The date for Book Week this year is from Saturday 20 August to Friday 26 August 2022.
Each year, many schools and public libraries from all over Australia spend a week celebrating books and Australian authors and illustrators. We have already begun this celebration in the library at IEPS with a display of the CBCA Shortlisted Books with an accompanying activity packet.
At IEPS we will be celebrating Book Week with a Book Week Character Parade for all students and staff.
For our Book Week Character Parade, all students are encouraged to dress up as a favourite book character. Children are also encouraged to bring their book along to school with them if possible.
Parents are invited to attend the parade.
Where: IEPS basketball courts
When: Thursday 25 August 2022
Time: 9:15am
Wear: Book character costume
If any students choose not to dress as a book character, they can wear their normal school uniform. Please note that the costume does not need to be too elaborate. We would encourage parents to use dress-up clothes from home for the event.

Enrolments for Prep in 2023 are open and we are now finalising grades for the coming year. Enrolment forms may be downloaded from the link below.
When lodging the enrolment form, we need to sight the original birth certificate and current immunisation history statement, which are school entry requirements.
Hooptime
Girls Team Summary by Zara T
Getting off the bus everyone was nervous, we arrive at Ivanhoe grammar sports stadium and immediately sat down for the start of the presentation. We were told the rules, timing and our schedule for the day. Everyone was ready and eager for the first game. We are one of the first teams to play and had quite a convincing first win, we continued to go undefeated leading into the semifinals. We won our Semifinal and made it to the Grand Final!
Walking on the court waiting for the ball to go up, the siren went, ball goes up, everyone yelling for the ball. Half time siren went we were down, everyone looking at the scoreboard desperately wanting to go back on. Walking back on the court more nervous than ever, the final buzzer went off. The team was filled with sadness as we didn’t quite get the win but everyone was extremely happy with runners up because we know we played our hardest. Getting our medals was a super amazing achievement and each boys and girls team did phenomenal!! GO IEPS !!
Boys Team Summary by Noah W
Ivanhoe East Primary Boys Team had a successful Hoop Time tournament making the semi-finals.
Our team had a close loss to St Johns in the first round and then defeated Mary Immaculate PS and Alphington PS.
We had a tough loss in the semi-final losing by 1 point to Ivanhoe Grammar but we all improved our play in every game.
It was a great day and our principal Mr. Boyle and our P.E. teacher Mr. Bartlett made it even better. A big thank to them and to all the parents for coming along to support us.
Division Athletics – by Press Club
On Monday morning the 22nd of August, students from our school went to compete at the District Aths Carnival. There were multiple events such as shot put, discuss, long jump, triple jump, running races and more. There were ten schools competing and the top two got through to division from our school. Division will take place on the 7th of September for the students that made it. Good luck to the athletes going!
Last Thursday in Week 5, fast fingers and complex minds enraged the Performing Arts Room for the Rubik’s cube competition. A variety of students, from the upcoming Year 2s, all the way up to the Year 5s, had shown up to compete for a very fun time.
Competitions never last forever, and that fortunately gave us 2 of some of the fastest fingers and minds of IEPS. The winners are very, very talented and we are delighted to announce that Hamish (4H) came first with a miraculous average of 37.23, with one runner up, Aren (4H),who came second with a solid average of 45.52.
We hope that all competitors and viewers were delighted with a competition suited to their talent, and enjoyment of Rubik’s cubes. We also hope that the younger cubers will be able to step up and organise more competitions for years to come.
We are happy to announce that there will be a Rubik’s cube tutorial for those who would like to learn how to solve it. It will be held on a Thursday lunchtime (Week 7) on the 25th of August. It will take place at the top asphalt near the senior school area and if raining, in the Performing Arts room.
As for the winners of the previous competition (Hamish and Aren) will possibly retrieve their prize by next week.
Special thanks to the school principal Mr Boyle, and Ms Georgiadis for helping us make this happen. Thank you also to supporting friends and other quiet helpers who made this a memorable day.
We are excited to see you on Thursday of Week 7 the 25th of August for our Rubik’s cube tutorial.
Thank you,
Winston and Willem!
