Infectious Disease Updates
Since our last newsletter we have had 3 confirmed cases of Covid 19 on-site while infectious. Even though our numbers are plateauing we still have active cases in our community. We remind you to please be diligent on not sending your child to school when they are unwell. A friendly reminder that it is a collective effort in making sure that the school environment is as safe as possible for our entire community. As we start moving towards the warmer days and months there will continue to be discussion our current Covid safe measures in line with the DET guidelines and announce any further changes that may occur in the coming weeks.
Enrolments
As mentioned previously we are now actively trying to finalise our workforce plan for 2023 which is directly related to our incoming enrolments for 2023. If you or someone you know is planning on enrolling their child (which is required even if they have a sibling at the school) at IEPS and hasn’t already done so, we would appreciate their enrolment as soon as possible so we can start making these decisions.
Not at IEPS in 2023
If your child/children will not be returning to Ivanhoe East Primary School next year please advise us as soon as possible as this information also assists with staffing.
2022 Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey
On Monday 22nd of August each family would have received an individualised letter inviting them to complete this survey. This letter includes all the details on how to access and complete the survey. We ask all families to participate in this survey as the survey results from parents/caregivers/guardians will be used celebrate achievements made towards our 2022 goals, as well provide valuable information to help us create our 2023 goals.
The survey will be open until Friday 16th September. If you have misplaced your code please contact the school office and it will be reissued to you.
Variance to School Day (Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences)
Tomorrow Thursday September 8th is our scheduled Variance to School Day. This is not a typical school day, instead it is a pupil free day so our Parent Teacher conferences can occur between 12.00 – 8.00 pm. Please note that the expectation is the year 4-6 students attend their conference.
Our Variance to School Day will be run online via Webex. We would encourage most families to engage with their conference online, however if you feel it is necessary to meet face-to-face please directly email your child’s classroom teacher.
- Please note that 5H and 6F’s interviews have already occurred and Ms. Hamilton’s will be on Tuesday 13th of September as they are both attending State School Spectacular tomorrow, the 8th of September.
Pyjama Day
Last Friday the 2nd of September we had a Pyjama Day to support little people with BIG Dreams through the National Pyjama Day Fundraiser.
We have raised $730 so far and you are still able to donate via the following link https://fundraise.thepyjamafoundation.com/fundraisers/ivanhoeeastprimaryschool
All money raised through this fundraiser will allow community mentors called “Pyjama Angels” to be recruited, screened, trained, and then matched with a child in care. Together they read books, play educational games, do home-work and so much more. Most importantly, they empower children with learning, life skills and confidence to reach their full potential.
Thank you to our Principal Advisory Group, especially Oliva T and Isabel W for orgnaising this day and brining awareness to children who are in foster care.
PTFA Update & Thanks
Thank you to all of our volunteers who assisted with the Father's/Special Person's Stall last week. Your help was greatly appreciated! We hope that all IEPS Dads, grandfathers and father figures had a fantastic day on Sunday and enjoyed the gifts that were chosen for them!
Our next event will be a SCHOOL DISCO in Term 3 - Friday 21 October. Please save the date - more information to follow shortly!
R U OK?
Tomorrow is ‘R U OK? Day’, reminding us it is an important time to check in with friends and families. The ‘R U OK?’ website has some great resources, including how to ask others if they’re ok, by following the steps: Ask, Listen, Encourage Action, Check in.
If you check in with your children and you’re concerned, the Kids Helpline website https://kidshelpline.com.au/ has a great section for kids aged 5-12 years old. It is a child friendly website which they can access, or you could access together to seek help. Also, ‘Parent Line’ ph:13 22 89, is available 8am-midnight, seven days a week, to talk through any parenting concerns you have for your child. They can provide counselling and help link you to other local services and much more.

Lukas Koutoufides
Lukas represented the state of Victoria in the Under 12 Basketball National Tournament earlier on this term, please find below his summary of the event. This was a huge achievement by Lukas and we congratulate him on his efforts.
Me and my family arrived at Bendigo on the 12th of August. After 1 night there it was game day we had our opening ceremony then straight after that was our first game against NSW. We won 56-34. On the 14th of August we had a game against QLD which are big competitors. The whole game it was so close but then in the last half we out scored QLD by 17 points which secured us the win. After 3 nights in Bendigo I was having a lot of fun and making a terrific amount of friends from other states. The 16th was a huge game between us Victoria, and WA we were both 3-0 whoever won this would be in 1st place and get a better shot at gold. At half time we were down 22-21. In the second half they out scored by 1 point the final scores 55-53 WA wins. After that we had a team dinner and team trivia with the girls team. The next day we had a day off were we did recovery, team dinners and a lot of fun things.
Now came the finals, our first game was against QLD in the final and we won 57-46. Next was the gold medal match against WA. The game starts it goes back and forth back and forth. Until we get on a run Victoria goes up by 9 points at 1st quarter time. Then WA make a slight come back 28-24 Victoria winning at half time. 3 quarter time VIC were winning by 4 still. Then WA out scored us by 6 points in the last quarter and we lost by 2 points again to get the silver medal. The ending ceremony started and we got rewarded the silver medal.
Wrapping the week off in Bendigo overall it was a tough loss to WA in the grand final and one that will probably hurt and and I will remember forever however, second in the entire country is an amazing effort by our team. I’m very proud and forever grateful to be part of the SSV experience and couldn’t have loved it anymore I have made lots of new life long friends, learnt new skills and be more resilient and most of all amazing memories that will be with me forever.
