Infectious Disease Updates
New Covid Guidelines
Any student or staff member who tests positive to COVID-19 must now isolate for a minimum of 5 instead of 7 days. If they are asymptomatic, they may return to school on day 6. If they are symptomatic, they must remain in isolation until day 7. If they have symptoms after 7 days, they are strongly advised to stay home until their symptoms have resolved. As an additional risk mitigation, the Department of Health strongly recommends that you wear a face mask away from home indoors and outdoors when you cannot physically distance. If you are leaving isolation on day 6, wear a mask for 5 days but particularly the first 2 days. If you are leaving isolation on day 7, wear a mask for 4 days but particularly first 2 days. Consider taking rapid antigen tests before attending a workplace, including schools, sensitive settings or visiting people at higher risk of severe illness. If you are positive, stay home.
The Victorian Government will provide up to 3 deliveries of RATs to schools in Term 4, 2022. These deliveries will be made fortnightly starting the first week of term. We will continue to distribute RATs for use by staff and students who are symptomatic or who are household contacts. All RAT stock will be utilised by the end of Term 4, 2022 or sent home with students. This is because RATs need to be stored under 30 degrees, and stock left in unairconditioned buildings over the summer holidays may not be viable for Term 1, 2023.
Enrolments
As of October 1, I will be in a position to finalise our workforce plan for 2023, this plan is directly related to our incoming enrolments for 2023. If you or someone you know is planning on enrolling their child (which is required even if they have a sibling at the school) at IEPS and hasn’t already done so they need to submit their application prior to October 1st. Our transition sessions begin in early October and we look forward to welcoming our 2023 Foundation students back on-site for their official transition sessions.
Not at IEPS in 2023
If your child/children will not be returning to Ivanhoe East Primary School next year please advise us as soon as possible as this information also impacts our Workforce Planning for 2023.
2022 Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey
Final reminder that this vitally important survey will be closing this coming Friday 16th September. If you have misplaced your individual code/log in details code, please contact the school office and it will be reissued to you. Thank you to everyone that has already completed the survey and we ask that if you haven’t, you find a time to complete it by Friday.
Staffing Updates
Unfortunately for us as a community Mrs. Kim Liss has been offered another opportunity at an alternative school setting starting in Term 4. We will be saddened to see Kim move on, but this is an opportunity for her to take on another challenge/chapter in her educational career. We wish her the best and she will always be welcome back as a part of the IEPS alumni. We have concluded the recruitment process to fill Kim’s part time position and I would like to welcome Ms. Zarah Draper as the newest member of the IEPS teaching community. Zarah will be on-site tomorrow to shadow Megan Lannen as she familiarises herself with the class before starting her part time role in Term 4.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank you for your understanding and support as we continue to navigate our way through the challenging environment that schools are facing related to a limited pool of replacement (CRT) staff and full-time teaching staff that are available for schools. We will continue to deliberate as a wider leadership team to make the best possible decisions for the school moving forward.
Banyule Council Decals
Over the school holidays Banyule Council will be installing decals across the Ivanhoe East Community as per below.
These decals will be installed as part of the sustainable initiative that Banyule City Council is working on with Ivanhoe East Primary School. In the month of October, we will be promoting students to walk/scoot/ride to school wherever possible. This campaign is not aimed to add an extra layer to the morning routine, it is more about providing options for families who are able to engage in walking-riding-scooting to school more than they currently are.
Please keep an eye out for more information in the Week 1 – Term 4 bulletin.
Banyule City Council are hosting 1-on-1 kids’ bike skills sessions this school holidays.
Scheduled for Friday 30 September at the Eaglemont Tennis Club carpark, these are individual 45 minute sessions for kids aged 7-16. Designed for the beginner rider they are designed to build skills and confidence in a safe environment.
Bookings essential via Trybooking link below. https://www.trybooking.com/events/landing?eid=908713&
$19.50 ($15.50 concession) per lesson. BYO bike and helmet.
For more information please contact Alison Wood at transport@banyule.vic.gov.au
Environment Club Update
I would like to thank Carly Simmance and Michael Vosbergen for all the work they have been doing for the school. They have been busy working on building a quiet area near the senior building with the help of many students over the past few Friday afternoons. I would also like to make special mention of Bertie Atkin and Willem Versteeg for their presentation to School Council. Both students are actively involved in their Environment student leadership positions and we will be working with them to implement further initiatives next term.
Individual Naplan Results
All Year 3-5 students will receive their individual NAPLAN results tomorrow in the form of a sealed A4 envelope. Please note that the purpose of NAPLAN is for the government and public to get a broad understanding of how schools are performing. This provides important information about where to allocate more resources to support schools in need. While individual families also receive information about how their student performed, this was not the original purpose of the test.
At IEPS, NAPLAN is used for exactly what it was intended for, to help us as a school see our school results through a wider lens, we also use a range of other platforms to do this. As for its use at an individual student level, it is just one piece of a multitude of assessment tools that are used to identify student’s achievement and consequently track their growth against the Victorian Curriculum.
I encourage you to read the article below before opening the A4 envelope
What parents should and shouldn't say when talking to their child about NAPLAN results
Results are coming back for students in years, 3, 5, 7 and 9. It can seem like a very big deal to stressed students. In reality, it is only one indicator of how a child is progressing.

On Wednesday the 7th September, students who had finished in the top two for their events in District participated in the Banyule Division Carnival. Students had a fantastic time cheering on their classmates and many finished in the top two once again in a variety of events. These students will be going through to Regionals which is a massive achievement!
Good luck to all of those representing Ivanhoe East in Regionals, GO IEPS!

FOOTY COLOURS DAY - THIS FRIDAY 16 SEPTEMBER
We're wearing our footy colours for kids with cancer!

Every year more than 950 children and young people are diagnosed with cancer in Australia. With treatment starting instantly they face, on average, more than 6 months away from their school and school friends.
This year, we're taking part in Fight Cancer Foundation's Footy Colours Day to help these kids!
All the money we raise funds Fight Cancer Foundation's education support programs which help kids with cancer keep up with school while they receive and recover from treatment.
Please donate what you can and help make a difference to the lives of kids with cancer!
2023 PREP ENROLMENTS - FINAL CALL OUT
Enrolments for Prep in 2023 are now being finalised for the coming year. The Enrolment form may be downloaded from the link below.
When lodging the enrolment form, we need to sight the original birth certificate and current immunisation history statement, which are school entry requirements.
Our Year 1 students loved sharing their learning with their families last week at their ‘Then and Now’ History Expo. They shared what they had discovered when comparing the past and present, noticing changes to daily life, transport, technology, school and games. Students were able to dress up in olden day clothes and participated in a range of olden day activities and crafts. They could try out their calligraphy skills using nib pens and ink or try out some cursive on the chalkboards. Year 1 also had a great time making old-fashioned peg dolls using scraps of fabric and wool and making ‘thaumatropes’ (an optical illusion toy from the past). It was great to see so many visitors in our Year 1 classrooms discussing how things have changed over time, and sharing their own experiences of school with their children.
We are in urgent need of volunteers in the Canteen. If you are able to spare a few hours it would be appreciated. Please follow the link below for the Canteen Roster.
