Infectious Disease
You may be aware that the Victorian Government has announced changes to the COVID-19 isolation requirements.
This means that from 11.59pm on Wednesday 12 October, the mandatory orders around isolation for people with COVID-19 have ended and instead we move to health advice and recommendations for people with COVID-19 or COVID-19-like symptoms. Our school will continue to adhere to the Department of Health’s recommendations to ensure that our school remains a safe environment for our staff and students.
The Department of Health strongly recommends that students and school staff:
- who test positive to COVID-19 stay home and isolate for 5 days and do not attend school after 5 days if they are still symptomatic
- who are symptomatic but have not tested positive not attend school. This does not include students with pre-existing conditions such as hay fever.
- Parents and carers are recommended to continue to report their child having COVID-19 to both the school and the Department of Health.
We will, however, no longer report occurrences of positive cases to the school community.
We ask parents and carers to continue to remain vigilant in preventing COVID-19 transmission. Any student who is unwell should continue to remain at home. This is about keeping students healthy and well in our school and reducing the spread of both COVID-19 and other respiratory diseases. Free rapid antigen tests are available at the school for those who need them. Parents and carers will be contacted if their child shows symptoms while at school. Students who wish to wear a mask should continue to do so.
To keep our school as safe as possible, we will also continue to use air purifiers and other COVID-19 prevention measures. Thanks for your continued efforts to keep our school community safe and well.

If you are interested in having a stall at our upcoming fair please contact the school directly via email ivanhoe.east.ps@education.vic.gov.au
Staffing Updates
This update is one that is difficult for me to write as this person has been an integral part of not only my time at IEPS but more importantly the past 15 years at IEPS. I would like to officially announce that Assistant Principal, Mrs. Adrienne Dudley will be retiring at the end of this year. Adrienne has been such a valuable member of the Ivanhoe East Community and she will be sorely missed. I wish her all the best as she steps into the next phase of her life. I decided due to the change of leadership that occurred last year, instead of looking externally, we would run an internal process due to calibre of staff we currently have at IEPS. We have completed an internal process and I would like to announce that we have appointed two Assistant Principals for 2023, I congratulate Mr. Benjamin Phillips and Mrs. Amanda Dwyer on their appointments to the principal class as Assistant Principals, their tenure will begin on the 27th of January 2023.
Parent Requests 2023
As we continue to meet the needs of the students at our school we will soon begin the complex task of workforce planning for the 2023 year; considering budgets, teacher requests, staffing changes and student numbers.
This is the time of the year when we start to explore class structures and carefully consider the best resourcing to meet student needs. As mentioned above, in order to do this we need to have an accurate understanding of student numbers in each level. If you know of any families who will be moving into the area and will have children enrolling at Ivanhoe East Primary School for next year, please ask them to make urgent contact with the school. Likewise, please let us know if your family is moving and/or your children will not be returning to IEPS in 2023
Throughout November and early December, we will be working on our class structures and student combinations for next year. Changes in student numbers and staffing combinations usually cause us to reshape our proposed class structures several times throughout this term. A great deal of thought, planning and time goes into placing students into classes. Every effort is made to place each child in a learning environment that is engaging, caring and productive. As you may understand, the allocation of students to new classes is an intricate task and one that requires patience and a great deal of thought.
The method used to create classes at IEPS is quite an in-depth analytical process that involves a multitude of variables. These variables include each student’s academics, learning needs, student pairings, behavioural aspects, parent requests, friendship requests and their specific classroom teacher’s observations and judgements. Rest assured even through this is a complex process each student will have at least one of their requested friends in their 2023 class.
Information from parents is welcomed as part of the decision-making processes, and we now invite parents to write to us about any requests they may have for their child’s educational needs. We do not accept requests for placement with individual teachers, however, we do take into consideration relevant information, based on educational needs, which can help us with the placement process.
Requests are to be addressed directly to Mr. Boyle and will be considered up until Monday 31st October. Please email directly to the school’s email account Ivanhoe.east.ps@education.vic.gov.au with any concerns around specific educational needs in relation to class placement. Only Letters received via the school email by 5pm Friday October 28th will be considered. If you have previously emailed your child’s classrooms teacher, you will need to re-email this letter addressed to myself and sent directly to the school’s email address. Please note that while we take any information that you provide into consideration, the final decisions regarding your child’s placement rest with the teaching staff and leadership team.
IEPS Colour Fun Run / Splash & Dash Event
Thank you to everyone who has signed up for the IEPS 'Splash and Dash' fundraising campaign. Please note that the Colour Fun Run and School Fun Run are the same event as the IEPS ‘Splash and Dash’ fundraising campaign, which is how it will be referred to in all future communications.

Canteen Summer Menu
We are excited to announce that we have a new Summer Canteen Menu. This menu has been created by our canteen manager Kim
Hall. The menu has been updated on the My School Connect app. A reminder that all orders need to be placed before 9am on the day to be accepted.
Hats (Reminder)
Now that Term 4 is upon us, all students are required to always wear hats outdoor
s at recess and lunchtime. Students who forget their hats will be expected to stay in undercover areas close to their classroom. We would ask that all students use the uniform hat, which can be purchased through PSW at any time or via the second-hand uniform shop. It is also expected that our Year 5 & 6 students will demonstrate leadership by setting a good example for the younger students.
Music Soiree
We are pleased to announce that we will be running a Music Soiree for any students who may be interested in an opportunity to perform in front of a small, supportive audience. This will occur on Thursday November 17th between 4.00 and 5.00pm in the Performing Arts Room (SPACE Centre.) If your child is interested in signing up please fill out the below form by Wednesday 9th of November. https://forms.gle/sWDZgPSY2CFx7eV69
