Infectious Disease
You may be aware that the Victorian Government has announced changes to the COVID-19 isolation requirements.
This means that from 11.59pm last Wednesday 12 October, the mandatory orders around isolation for people with COVID-19 have ended and instead we move to health advice and recommendations for people with COVID-19 or COVID-19-like symptoms. Our school will continue to adhere to the Department of Health’s recommendations to ensure that our school remains a safe environment for our staff and students.
The Department of Health strongly recommends that students and school staff:
- who test positive to COVID-19 stay home and isolate for 5 days and do not attend school after 5 days if they are still symptomatic
- who are symptomatic but have not tested positive not attend school. This does not include students with pre-existing conditions such as hay fever.
- Parents and carers are recommended to continue to report their child having COVID-19 to both the school and the Department of Health.
We will, however, no longer report occurrences of positive cases to the school community.
We ask parents and carers to continue to remain vigilant in preventing COVID-19 transmission. Any student who is unwell should continue to remain at home. This is about keeping students healthy and well in our school and reducing the spread of both COVID-19 and other respiratory diseases. Free rapid antigen tests are available at the school for those who need them. Parents and carers will be contacted if their child shows symptoms while at school. Students who wish to wear a mask should continue to do so. To keep our school as safe as possible, we will also continue to use air purifiers and other COVID-19 prevention measures. Thanks for your continued efforts to keep our school community safe and well.
IEPS Summer Fun Fair
We are well underway in our preparations for the IEPS Summer Fun Fair. We have one GOLD Sponsor left and we are doing a final call out for anyone that has a business and would be interested in sponsoring our fair, especially in regards to a GOLD sponsorship. We are also seeking if there are any companies/small businesses that would like to have a stall on the day and be able to advertise and sell their own products.
If you are interested in sponsorship or having a stall at our upcoming fair please contact the school directly via email Ivanhoe.east.ps@education.vic.gov.au
IEPS Colour Fun Run / Splash & Dash Event
Thank you to everyone who has signed up for the IEPS 'Splash and Dash' fundraising campaign. Please note that the Colour Fun Run and School Fun Run are the same event as the IEPS ‘Splash and Dash’ fundraising campaign, which is how it will be referred to in all future communications.
This is one of the major fundraisers for IEPS in 2022 and 65% of all money raised will be going directly towards improving the schools physical environment. Helping us create an even better place for students to learn and have fun here at IEPS. If you are yet to sign up, we encourage you to get involved. There is a link on the home page of the school website or you can follow the link below! https://www.schoolfunrun.com.au
Summary of all Frequently Asked Questions
Colour Fun Run or Splash and Dash?
The term colour fun run has been used interchangeably with splash and dash, as it is the default run the School Fun Run, fundraising group uses. However, our fun run won’t be using coloured powder, instead students will be sprayed with water as they run around the track. Those that do not want to be sprayed are welcome to run on the outside where will be a ‘spray free zone’
Is the fundraising and the Fun Run linked. i.e. is this like a walkathon where money raised is per lap?
No – The fun run is simply an end of year celebration to celebrate all of our efforts fundraising. Ultimately the ‘Fun Run’ avenue is designed as a fun and easy way for our students to raise money for our school. Every dollar raised to help us provide a better environment for our student learning and overall school experience is hugely appreciated.
What are we raising money for?
We have chosen to keep our fundraising goal broad, that being ‘improve the physical environment of IEPS’ Helping us to allocate all money raised to where we determine it is best needed i.e. anywhere from classroom furniture through to upgrades in our playground. Most importantly every dollar earned will go towards making IEPS an even better place for students to learn and play.
How do you fundraise?
Fundraising takes less than 3 minutes to sign up for. Simply click on the fundraising logo on the school website and create a profile for your child. Once a profile is created (less than 2 minutes work) you will then see a button stating ‘Donate Now’. This will give you a link that can be shared via text, email or social media to anyone that may be interested in donating some money to IEPS. Students will also have access to prizes for their efforts.
Do we have to pay for the prizes?
No – The prizes are directly linked to the money raised. i.e. if $500 is raised your child can choose a prize from the ‘$500 raised’ category on the Fun Run website.
Please note that the prizes are simply there as a bit of fun to help encourage students to get involved. Once again the primary reason we have gone through the School Fun Run program is to help the students have some fun and work together while we raise some money for IEPS.
Canteen Volunteers
Last Friday Litsa Kirk and I helped in the Canteen. As you can see by the picture attached, this was an enjoyable experience, however one that is not sustainable. This was required as Kim our Canteen Manager was trying to prep, cook and package close to 150 lunch orders. It was great to see so many students engaging with our canteen, however it is not sustainable for Kim to manage this on her own. We rely heavily on volunteers to keep our canteen running and therefore I send this request out to our wider community. Anyone who is able to volunteer their time to support Kim in the Canteen, please register via the prompts in the Canteen section of the bulletin.
No Assembly This Week
Due to the set up for the Disco occurring on Friday in the hall we are postponing assembly and it will be back on-site the following week the 28th of October.
Reminders From Previous Bulletins
Hats
Now that Term 4 is upon us, all students are required to wear hats outdoors at recess and lunchtime. Students who forget their hats will be expected to stay in undercover areas close to their classroom. We ask that all students use the uniform hat, which can be purchased through PSW at any time or via the second-hand uniform shop. It is also expected that our Year 5 & 6 students will demonstrate leadership by setting a good example for the younger students.
Parent Requests 2023
As we continue to meet the needs of the students at our school, we will soon begin the complex task of workforce planning for the 2023 year; considering budgets, teacher requests, staffing changes and student numbers.
This is the time of the year when we start to explore class structures and carefully consider the best resourcing to meet student needs. As mentioned above, in order to do this we need to have an accurate understanding of student numbers in each level. If you know of any families who will be moving into the area and will have children enrolling at Ivanhoe East Primary School for next year, please ask them to make urgent contact with the school. Likewise, please let us know if your family is moving and/or your children will not be returning to IEPS in 2023
Throughout November and early December, we will be working on our class structures and student combinations for next year. Changes in student numbers and staffing combinations usually cause us to reshape our proposed class structures several times throughout this term. A great deal of thought, planning and time goes into placing students into classes. Every effort is made to place each child in a learning environment that is engaging, caring and productive. As you may understand, the allocation of students to new classes is an intricate task and one that requires patience and a great deal of thought.
The method used to create classes at IEPS is quite an in-depth analytical process that involves a multitude of variables. These variables include each student’s academics, learning needs, student pairings, behavioural aspects, parent requests, friendship requests and their specific classroom teacher’s observations and judgements. Rest assured even through this is a complex process each student will have at least one of their requested friends in their 2023 class.
Information from parents is welcomed as part of the decision-making processes, and we now invite parents to write to us about any requests they may have for their child’s educational needs. We do not accept requests for placement with individual teachers, however, we do take into consideration relevant information, based on educational needs, which can help us with the placement process.
Requests are to be addressed directly to Mr. Boyle and will be considered up until Monday 31st October. Please email directly to the school’s email account Ivanhoe.east.ps@education.vic.gov.au with any concerns around specific educational needs in relation to class placement. Only Letters received via the school email by 5pm Friday October 28th will be considered. If you have previously emailed your child’s classrooms teacher, you will need to re-email this letter addressed to myself and sent directly to the school’s email address. Please note that while we take any information that you provide into consideration, the final decisions regarding your child’s placement rest with the teaching staff and leadership team.
