Infectious Disease
No further updates but please find a reminder below:
The Department of Health strongly recommends that students and school staff:
- who test positive to COVID-19 stay home and isolate for 5 days and do not attend school after 5 days if they are still symptomatic.
- who are symptomatic but have not tested positive not attend school. This does not include students with pre-existing conditions such as hay fever.
We ask parents and carers to continue to remain vigilant in preventing COVID-19 transmission. Any student who is unwell should continue to remain at home. This is about keeping students healthy and well in our school and reducing the spread of both COVID-19 and other respiratory diseases. Free rapid antigen tests are available at the school for those who need them. Parents and carers will be contacted if their child shows symptoms while at school. Students who wish to wear a mask should continue to do so. To keep our school as safe as possible, we will also continue to use air purifiers and other COVID-19 prevention measures. Thanks for your continued efforts to keep our school community safe and well.
This Friday is National World Teachers’ Day in Australia.
Assistant Principal Adrienne Dudley and I would like to thank the dedicated staff at IEPS for the significant contribution they make towards ensuring our students experience a stimulating and challenging learning environment. Our teachers work tirelessly to prepare curriculum resources for students and to engage with parents and children to provide valuable learning opportunities and support student wellbeing. If you are so inclined feel free to send your child’s teacher a message of appreciation.

IEPS Colour Fun Run / Splash & Dash Event
Thank you to everyone who has become involved in helping IEPS raise money through the School Fun Run program so far! As of the 25/10 we have raised a total of $12400 with $7440 of this going directly to IEPS to help us improve the overall learning and play environment for our students. Our fundraising campaign is open for another 10 days, closing on Friday 4/11. For those that haven’t got involved or haven’t created a profile we have made it very simple to donate by creating a general IEPS donation link through the School Fun Run website.
General IEPS Link – Click Here
Simply click on the above link and proceed to press ‘donate now’ if you are interested in making a general donation without setting up a profile for your child. Please feel free to share this link/page with anyone that may be interested in donating to improving IEPS. Once again thanks for everyone’s fundraising efforts so far. Every dollar raised is appreciated and looking forward to seeing what we can raise over the next 10 days!
Is Your Child Starting Secondary School Next Year?
Parents of our Year 6 students will tell you that it doesn’t seem that long ago that their child was starting school. The primary years seem to fly by and our year 6s are already three weeks into their final term of primary school. Secondary school can be a daunting thought for not only our students but parents as well. There are many questions, which I’m sure you have, which may not have been answered at information nights and orientation days. The Department of Education and Training have developed an informative site, which provides hints and tips on how to support your child through the transition to secondary school.
Foundation 2023 Transition
It has been great to see our 2023 Foundation students happily engaged last Wednesday and today for their first Prep transition sessions. Just a reminder to please fill out the Prep 2023 survey which is due this Friday October 28th. This survey allows you to request friendship pairings for 2023 and to provide us with any other information which may impact your child’s transition to school. Link below:
Please also refer to the Prep Transition Blog for frequently asked questions, getting ready for school information and important dates!
https://sites.google.com/education.vic.gov.au/2023preptransitionblog/transition-sessions
Also, if your child has allergies or is anaphylactic, by legal requirement the school needs your child’s EpiPen and allergy plan when they attend transition sessions. If you have any further questions about this please contact our fantastic school nurse Hilda: hilda.hallinan@education.vic.gov.au
Parent Requests 2023 due by 9am Monday 31st October
As we continue to meet the needs of the students at our school we will soon begin the complex task of workforce planning for the 2023 year; considering budgets, teacher requests, staffing changes and student numbers.
This is the time of the year when we start to explore class structures and carefully consider the best resourcing to meet student needs. As mentioned above in order to do this we need to have an accurate understanding of student numbers in each level. If you know of any families who will be moving into the area and will have children enrolling at Ivanhoe East Primary School for next year, please ask them to make urgent contact with the school. Likewise, please let us know if your family is moving and/or your children will not be returning to IEPS in 2023
Throughout November and early December, we will be working on our class structures and student combinations for next year. Changes in student numbers and staffing combinations usually cause us to reshape our proposed class structures several times throughout this term. A great deal of thought, planning and time goes into placing students into classes. Every effort is made to place each child in a learning environment that is engaging, caring and productive. As you may understand, the allocation of students to new classes is an intricate task and one that requires patience and a great deal of thought.
The method used to create classes at IEPS is quite an in-depth analytical process that involves a multitude of variables. These variables include each student’s academics, learning needs, student pairings, behavioural aspects, parent requests, friendship requests and their specific classroom teacher’s observations and judgements. Rest assured even through this is a complex process each student will have at least one of their requested friends in their 2023 class.
Information from parents is welcomed as part of the decision-making processes, and we now invite parents to write to us about any requests they may have for their child’s educational needs. We do not accept requests for placement with individual teachers, however, we do take into consideration relevant information, based on educational needs, which can help us with the placement process.
Requests are to be addressed directly to Mr. Boyle and will be considered up until 9am Monday 31st October. Please email directly to the school’s email account Ivanhoe.east.ps@education.vic.gov.au with any concerns around specific educational needs in relation to class placement. Only Letters received via the school email by 9am Monday 31st of October will be considered. If you have previously emailed your child’s classrooms teacher, you will need to re-email this letter addressed to myself and sent directly to the school’s email address. Please note that while we take any information that you provide into consideration, the final decisions regarding your child’s placement rest with the teaching staff and leadership team.
Cup Weekend
A reminder that the school will be closed on Monday 31st October for a Teacher Professional Practice Day. With Tuesday 1st November being the Melbourne Cup public holiday, students will return to school on Wednesday 2nd November.
Assembly This Week
Assembly will be back on-site this Friday the 28th of October.
Reminders From Previous Bulletins
Hats
Now that Term 4 is upon us, all students are required to always wear hats outdoors at recess and lunchtime. Students who forget their hats will be expected to stay in undercover areas close to their classroom. We would ask that all students use the uniform hat, which can be purchased through PSW at any time or via the second-hand uniform shop. It is also expected that our Year 5 & 6 students will demonstrate leadership by setting a good example for the younger students.
Music Soiree
We are pleased to announce that we will be running a Music Soiree for any students who may be interested in an opportunity to perform in front of a small, supportive audience. This will occur on Thursday November 17th between 4.00 and 5.00pm in the Performing Arts Room (SPACE Centre.) If your child is interested in signing up please fill out the below form by Wednesday 9th of November. https://forms.gle/sWDZgPSY2CFx7eV69
Banyule Council Walk/Scoot/Ride Campaign
We are excited to announce that IEPS will be participating in the walk, ride and scoot to school program. Throughout this program we strive to achieve students becoming more active in the way they arrive at school. This program is well underway and we are continuing to track the amount that each student is riding/walking/scooting to school and promoting some healthy competition between classes.

We would like to congratulate all those who participated in District Athletics up to State Level. In Regionals on Wednesday Week 2, 13 students from Ivanhoe East Primary came to compete. Despite the heavy rain at Meadowglen International Athletics Stadium, everyone did well. Congratulations to the 2 Grade 6’s that made it through to State, Sam Palmer who was in the 15-hundred-meter sprint and Noah Ellis who was in shot put. We wish you all the luck for State Finals.
