Infectious Disease
No further updates but please find a reminder below:
The Department of Health strongly recommends that students and school staff:
- who test positive to COVID-19 stay home and isolate for 5 days and do not attend school after 5 days if they are still symptomatic.
- who are symptomatic but have not tested positive not attend school. This does not include students with pre-existing conditions such as hay fever.
We ask parents and carers to continue to remain vigilant in preventing COVID-19 transmission. Any student who is unwell should continue to remain at home. This is about keeping students healthy and well in our school and reducing the spread of both COVID-19 and other respiratory diseases. Free rapid antigen tests are available at the school for those who need them. Parents and carers will be contacted if their child shows symptoms while at school. Students who wish to wear a mask should continue to do so. To keep our school as safe as possible, we will also continue to use air purifiers and other COVID-19 prevention measures. Thanks for your continued efforts to keep our school community safe and well.

IEPS Colour Fun Run / Splash & Dash Event Update
First and foremost, thank you to everyone that has supported our fundraising campaign so far and made any form of donation, it is much appreciated. We are currently in the final week of fundraising. Fundraising will be open until the end of the day, Monday the 7th of November. Please note, there is a 1 week window to order prizes that have been ‘won’ through donating. This prize window is open from November 7th to November 14th. The School Fun Run team may not accept any prize nominations post this date. As we head into the final few days of fundraising, we would love to continue to see the donations come in and continue to raise as much money as we can to help improve our school for all students!

Staffing
Due to moving residence and travel time being a major factor, Gregory Spencer’s last official day with us will be this coming Friday. He will however be working casually Mondays and Fridays for the foreseeable future to support our newest administration staff by conducting a thorough handover process.
Therefore, I would like to officially welcome Antonietta (Toni) Kearney and Carmel Sitilidis as our newest members of the administration team at IEPS. Carmel will be working Monday – Wednesday and Toni Wednesday – Friday.
IEPS Beanies
Our custom Ivanhoe East Primary School jacquard beanies that we arranged and ordered earlier this year for are now in stock and available for parents to purchase from our Kew East store or online.
2023 Class Structures
Planning and preparations for the 2023 school year are well under way. We have commenced the development of our staffing plan for next year and these will be completed towards the end of November. The key driver of this plan is having an accurate figure regarding our student enrolments for next year. Currently we have 70 Foundations students enrolled to commence their formal education next year at IEPS. Enrolments have also been received for students in other year levels across the school. We are expecting approximately 470 students with 21 classes in 2023.
Our class structure will be:
Foundation: 4 classes
Grade 1: 3 classes
Grade 2: 3 classes
Grade 3: 3 classes
Grade 4: 3 classes
Grade 5: 3 classes
Grade 6: 2 classes
Enrolments / Students Leaving
As previously mentioned, we are now in full planning mode for 2023. If you are aware your child/children will not be returning next year, please can you let me know as soon as possible. Furthermore, if you have a child/know of a family friends’ child who is planning on attending IEPS and hasn’t enrolled please contact the school office as soon as possible to arrange an enrolment.
This is particularly important as we need to ensure we have the right number of teachers for our students next year. Thank you for your help with this matter.
Music Soiree
We are pleased to announce that we will be running a Music Soiree for any students who may be interested in an opportunity to perform in front of a small, supportive audience. This will occur on Thursday November 17th between 4.00 and 5.00pm in the Performing Arts Room (SPACE Centre.) If your child is interested in signing up please fill out the below form by 9am tomorrow Thursday 3rd of November. https://forms.gle/sWDZgPSY2CFx7eV69
Banyule Council Walk/Scoot/Ride Campaign
Our walk, ride and scoot to school program is has just under 2 weeks remaining. Throughout this program we are striving to achieve students becoming more active in the way they arrive at school. We are continuing to track the amount that each student is riding/walking/scooting to school and promoting some healthy competition between classes with external prizes on offer.
Hats (Reminder)
Now that Term 4 is upon us, all students are required to always wear hats outdoors at recess and lunchtime. Students who forget their hats will be expected to stay in undercover areas close to their classroom. We would ask that all students use the uniform hat, which can be purchased through PSW at any time or via the second-hand uniform shop. It is also expected that our Year 5 & 6 students will demonstrate leadership by setting a good example for the younger students.
School Values Mural
A massive thank you to our Art Captains Isabelle, Lucy and Andrei for their hard work throughout the year creating our new School Values Mural. A special mention to our Art Teacher Lauren Turner for giving up her time to help the students with this project. You will notice this next to the office in the main foyer area.
Happy Diwali!
Many of our community members celebrated Diwali last Monday 24th October. On behalf of the IEPS staff, students and community, we would like to wish you a Happy Diwali!

Fun was had by all at our IEPS Neon Disco held on 21st October. Thank you to Tina Donohue for organising this event and to all the other parents who assisted. Below is a snapshot of the event.
Students representing IEPS @ State Athletics
IEPS would like to acknowledge all the students who represented IEPS at Reigonal Athletics. A special mention to Chiara Kalivoda, Sam Plamer and Noah Ellis who made it through to State. These students represented IEPS at the State Athletics today at Albert Park. Making it to State is nothing short of impressive and we recognise these students achievements. We wish them all the best today and most importantly hope that they enjoyed themseleves!
Recongition of IEPS Student Achievements in the Community
I would like to introduce the newest addition to our bulletin. This section will be an opportunity to recognise the achievements of our students within the community. If you believe that your child has achieved something of significance in the community please contact me via email tom.boyle@education.vic.gov.au and we can discuss the process for them to be featured in an upcoming bulletin as well as the possibility for them to speak at assembly.
Our first addition for this new section of the bulletin features Hugh Goodyear and Lachlan Pranoto for attaining the Grey Wolf Award which is the pinnacle of achievements for the Cub Scouts
Hugh and Laclan are Scouts of the 1st Eaglemont Scouts Group. They both recently achieved their Grey Wolf Award. The Grey Wolf Award is the highest award you can earn in the Cub Scout Section. It is considered the pinnacle of scouting at this stage, and is a milestone in your scouting life. Lachlan and Hugh recently travelled to Wallan Scouts to receive official recognition of their achievement.
The requirements for earning our Grey Wolf Award were:
- Gold Boomerang, completing set tasks
- Participate in four outdoor activities
- Attend an overnight camp
- Attend a Cub Scout activity with another Cub Scout Pack/Group
- Using a map, plan and lead a hike for at least 2 hours with a leader and 3-6 Cub Scouts
- Attend two Pack Council Meetings
- Complete four, Level 2 Achievement badges
- Achieve one Special Interest badge
- Write a personal refection on my time as a Cub Scout
Both boys thoroughly enjoyed their experience, Hugh especially enjoyed completing the Grey Wolf Hike. This involved everything from deciding where the hike was going to take place, to making sure they had a Scout Safe Plan. This included thinking about the risks, and planning prevention and solution measures. They had to organise their hike group and have it all approved by the Pack Council. The hike was at Plenty Gorge, and it was a great success.
Lachlan enjoyed training in a range of First Aid, from using bandages to seeking medical attention in the event of an emergency. He participated in different scenarios over the two days and then did a multiple choice test to test his knowledge.
Another one of his highlights was attending a two day Leadership Camp at Camp Warringal. He and Hugh worked in teams, did outdoor activities and had sessions to talk about leadership qualities and how important it is to understand others individuality and that we are all unique.
Congratulations to both Hugh and Lachlan on their achievements.
