Infectious Disease
I urge you to continue to be diligent with the Department of Health’s strong recommendations that students and school staff:
- who test positive to COVID-19 stay home and isolate for 5 days and do not attend school after 5 days if they are still symptomatic.
- who are symptomatic but have not tested positive not attend school. This does not include students with pre-existing conditions such as hay fever.
We ask parents and carers to continue to remain vigilant in preventing COVID-19 transmission. Any student who is unwell should continue to remain at home. This is about keeping students healthy and well in our school and reducing the spread of both COVID-19 and other respiratory diseases.
Mosquito-Borne Diseases
After heavy rainfall, mosquitoes can grow and spread in the pools of water left behind. While the overall risk is low, some mosquitoes carry diseases that are spread through their bites. Mosquitoes are more active at dusk and dawn, but some will also bite during the day. The best way to prevent mosquito-borne diseases is to avoid mosquito bites. When mosquitoes are prevalent and cannot be avoided, families can protect against mosquito bites by:
- covering up as much as possible with long, loose-fitting, light-coloured clothing
- applying insect repellent that contains picaridin or DEET on exposed skin when leaving home
- limiting outdoor activity if lots of mosquitoes are active.

IEPS Summer Fun Fair Wrap-Up
Thank you to everyone that came down on Saturday! The weather was warmer than we would've hoped, but it was an enjoyable day nonetheless. I would like to personally thank Helen McBain, Jo Pearce, Carla Schwef, Narelle Fellowes, Bella Laidlaw, Renee Ballard, Peter Xu and Karishma Mehra, for giving up their time and sharing their knowledge, skills, and connections through the many fair committee meetings over the past few months. Without them, this wouldn't have been possible. I would also like to thank Meg Dickson, Sarah Brush and Humaira Chaudry for being the staff representatives, and to Ash Hamilton and Sarah Brush for putting together the Talent Quest.
A special mention to all the class representatives and parent helpers on the day. This was an exceptional team effort and I am extremely grateful for everyone who was able to volunteer. A further special mention to Fleur Jones for all that she did with the second-hand clothes, as well as the second-hand books.
It was an extremely successful day and we raised a total of roughly $50,000. Every dollar will go to improving the physical environment of the school. This, in conjunction with the Colour Fun Run, takes our total to $62,000. Tonight at School Council and over the coming weeks in our Principal Advisory Group meetings, we will be discussing and prioritising phases of development to improve the physical environment that our students engage with on a daily basis.

IEPS Splash & Dash
This Friday December 9th, IEPS will be holding a Fun Run down at Chelsworth Park from 1pm to 2:45pm. The purpose of the Fun Run is to celebrate our fundraising efforts through the 'Schools Fun Run' program. More importantly, it is a great opportunity to get all the students together in their house colours to celebrate the end of the year as a school. Over the course of the afternoon, students will be engaging in a range of team building and tabloid based activities, and each class will have an opportunity to run around the oval whilst being sprayed with water, running through bubbles, and moving through obstacles as part of our Splash and Dash run. For those students that want to avoid the water, bubbles, and obstacles, there will be an option to run out wider on the track. Once again, this is a house event, so all students are encouraged to dress up in their house colours. Please feel free to come along and be part of the day!
Learning Showcase
What a fantastic turn out we had for our Term 4 learning showcase. The students were so excited to showcase all that they had been working on throughout this term. We hope that you enjoyed seeing all of the creative, innovative and collaborative work that was on display. We are extremely proud of the dedication our students have toward their learning and a big part of this is that the learning is purposeful and related to their interests. Our teaching staff use student agency to enhance engagement, and as you could see on Thursday, this resulted in a showcase where students were proud to share their learning with their peers and the wider community.

2022 Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey Results
The number of responses to the Parent Opinion Survey increased, as we had close to 100 responses.
Our targets were 'that the percentages of positive endorsements in the Parent Opinion Survey will increase when compared to 2021'.
- Teacher Communication from 44% to 60% (2022 = 54%, +10% from 2021 and -6% from target)
- General School Improvement from 47% to 60% (2022 57%, +10% from 2021 and – 3% from target)
- Managing Bullying from 69% to 75% (2022 76%, +7% from 2021 and +1% from target)
- Non-Experience of Bullying from 56% to 71% (2022 74%, +18% from 2021 and +3% from target)
- Promoting Positive Behaviour from 64% to 79% (2022 79%, +15% from 2021 and hit target even)
- School Connectedness from 65% to 80% (2022 85%, +20% from 2021 and +5% from target)
- Parent Participation from 54% to 69% (2022 70%, +16% from 2021 and +1% from target)
In summary, out of 19 Sections we improved in 18 of them (the only one was Physical Environment, such as, this school has clean and well-maintained facilities and grounds). Out of all sections we averaged an improvement on last year by an average of 13.2%, and compared to 2019 (pre-Covid) we improved by 8% on average. This data set, along with a range of other data sets, is integral to our continuous improvement cycle and consequent reflection, and helps create our Annual Implementation Plans. During this reflection, we look at areas of success and unpack what has led to this, as well as, unpacking areas where the data shows improvement is required. As always, we really appreciate the feedback from our community and we are looking forward to continuing to refine and reflect to provide the most purposeful, engaging, and connected learning experience for all stakeholders here at IEPS.
