Welcome Back
On behalf of all the staff at IEPS, we hope you had an enjoyable time over the school holiday break. Yesterday we welcomed back our community, and it was great to see so many smiling faces, not only from our students but from some parents as well. We are looking forward to another term jam packed full of engaging and hands on learning in Literacy and Numeracy in conjunction with our inquiry topic of Geography. We also look forward to a range of incursions/excursions, athletic days, book week, and much more.

Next week, Friday 21st of July, will be our first onsite assembly of the term. It will run at the same time, from 9.00 – 9.30am in the school gym. Please note this term we will be having student of the week awards fortnightly and these will be featured at our onsite assemblies.
Please click on the below link to view our first episode which was created late last term!
July 15th - World Youth Skills Day
As we enter a new generation where technology is taking an ever prominent position within our society, this day acknowledges that our future children’s careers may look different to what they are now. The theme for World Youth Skills Day 2023 is ‘Skilling teachers, trainers and youth for a transformative future’. We are very fortunate at IEPS to have experienced and highly educated staff to ensure that we promote a critical and creative learning environment for our students. As a community, we are aware that not all children are given the same opportunities and acknowledge this on this date.
Upcoming changes to NAPLAN reporting
Ahead of NAPLAN results for students which will be released from Monday 17 July 2023, I’m writing to inform you of some changes to this year’s reporting. These are changes being introduced nationally by the Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA).
NAPLAN will continue to measure student achievement in numeracy, reading, writing, spelling, and grammar and punctuation but the results will now be presented in 4 proficiency levels:
These are:
- exceeding
- strong
- developing
- needs additional support.
This change will give schools, parents and carers clearer information that details student achievement against new proficiency levels. When we provide you with your results, you will also receive information about what the new proficiency levels mean.
Students’ NAPLAN reports will continue to show how they are tracking against their peers and provide an indication of their skill levels against national averages.
Each set of NAPLAN results is an important milestone but it’s also important that students know that one result does not define them, especially as these results come from one test in Year 3 and 5. Here at IEPS we use a range of diagnaostic and ongoing assessments across all year levels that inform our teaching and learning practice, this allows us to differentiate our teaching and learning to suit student needs in a timely manner.Construction Update
As you may’ve noticed we have had quite a lot of new additions to our physical environment this year. The vast majority of this has come from our fundraising in 2022, most notably our school fair.
- We have had new inclusive playground equipment added to our junior playground.
- We have installed a GaGa Ball pit.
- We have relayed asphalt around the basketball ring where the tree roots had previously damaged the basketball court.
- We have redone all the line markings on the outside courts.
- We have installed new basketball backboards and rings as well as new netball rings on our outside courts.
- We have installed new basketball backboards, rings and padding in the gymnasium.
Our next addition will be through a company caled Edumarking who will be redoing linemarking, and adding new interactive game boards in our courtyard area, which was meant to be completed over the Term 2 school holidays. However this has been pushed back due to the ongoing delays around the ramp that is being built in front of the SPACE centre to provide access to the middle school.
This project is an external project unlike all of the others that have been run internally. It is coordinated and run by the Victorian School Building Authority. This project commenced in November last year and had an initial completion date of March 2023. However due to a range of variables which have been out of our control the end date has now been pushed back to the end of August 2023. We look forward to the completion of this ramp so access to our middle school can be granted for all students and community members, and then for Edumarking to complete our courtyard area by the end of Term 3.

Infectious Disease
We ask that if your child is symptomatic you do not send them to school and we thank you in advance as we acknowledge that this can be challenging, especially for working parents.
If your child does test positive for COVID-19 and/or any other infectious disease we ask you contact the school via email Ivanhoe.east.ps@education.vic.gov.au and it is recommended that they isolate for a minimum of 5 days and not attend school until their symptoms have resolved.
In relation to Covid-19 it is recommended that rapid antigen tests (RATs) are used by students and staff:
- If you have symptoms of COVID-19 infection, no matter how mild
- If you are a household or close contact of someone who has COVID-19
- If you are a social contact of someone who has COVID-19.
Rapid Antigen Tests are also available from the front office, please don’t hesitate to come in and collect as needed.
