Staffing Update
I would like to formally welcome back Larissa Lamers who has returned from maternity leave. Larissa is replacing Lauren Turner in the Art room who is now on maternity leave.
NAPLAN Preliminary Data
Please note that this year’s NAPLAN assessment criteria have changed from bands to proficiency levels. Therefore, there is no comparable data to previous years, this includes both achievement and growth data. The only data provided this year is proficiency levels (achievement levels) which doesn’t show student learning growth over time. However nonetheless please find our preliminary proficiency NAPLAN data below.
Overall, on average 89% of students recorded exceeding or strong results in Reading. This was on average 1% above similar schools and 7% above network schools.
Overall, on average 97% of students recorded exceeding or strong results in Writing. This was on average 8% above similar schools and 12% above network schools.
Overall, on average 74% of students recorded exceeding or strong results in Spelling. This was on average 3% below similar schools but 4% above network schools.
Overall, on average 78% of students recorded exceeding or strong results in Grammar & Punctuation. This was on average 1% above similar schools and 9% above network schools.
Overall, on average 83% of students recorded exceeding or strong results in Numeracy. This was on average 1% below similar schools but 5% above network schools.
Overall Summary
Overall across all 5 learning areas we had an average of 84% of students achieve Strong or Exceeding results. On average our results were 1.2% above similar schools and 7.4% above network schools.
If we take the top 3 areas that are the Department’s focus: Reading, Writing and Numeracy, we had an average of 90% of students achieve Strong or Exceeding results. On average our results were 3% above similar schools and 8% above network schools.
Overall while NAPLAN results are a measure of academic progress, it is crucial to remember that they represent only one aspect of academic achievement for our Year 3 and 5 students. NAPLAN provides us one set of data that we use as part of our Annual Implementation and School Strategic Plans. As this year’s NAPLAN data only shows achievement (there is no comparable or growth data available), our internal data that focuses on academic growth provides more prevalent data on the how each pedagogical approach is supporting student learning.
The diagnostic, formative and ongoing assessment of our students’ academic success that is used here at IEPS, provides us with timely data to inform our differentiated teaching approach to provide opportunities for each child to engage with their learning at their point of need. Furthermore, academic outcomes are only one aspect of a child's growth and development. Each student is unique, and we believe in nurturing their diverse talents, interests, and passions. Our commitment as educators is to provide a holistic education that fosters not only academic excellence but also social and emotional wellbeing.
100 Days of School (Foundation Students)
We are very excited to share with you the following information about the students 100 Days of School celebration!
We will be celebrating the students 100 days of school on Tuesday 1st August. The theme this year is ‘100 Days Brighter’ and we encourage the Foundation students to dress up in bright colours/a bright coloured costume for the day.
We will begin the day with an outfit/costume parade on the top asphalt at 9am. The whole school will be there to clap the Preps and join in on congratulating them on a wonderful first 100 days of school. The students will participate in a range of 100 related games and activities throughout the day before making themselves a special crown to wear home.
Our staff and wider community look forward to celebrating our 2023 Foundation students first 100 days of school.
Allergen Reminder
If you plan on bringing any food to school to share amongst your child's peers, please note you are required to inform the school prior to doing so. This is department policy and we appreciate your cooperation.
IEPS Athletics Day – Years 3-6
On Thursday August the 3rd students from Years 3 to 6 will be participating in a range of track and field events at Collingwood Harriers Athletics Track. A standardised approach will be used to allow all students to feel encouraged to participate and try their best in all events. In addition, students are encouraged to show their house spirit by coming along in house colours.
The events included on the day are the 100m sprint, shot-put, high jump, discus and long jump. The day is structured into two sessions: one for Years 3 & 4 and the other for Years 5 & 6. The first group will leave school at 9.15 am and return by 12.00 pm, with their events from 9.45 am to 11.30 am. The latter group will depart at 11:15 am and be back by 3:00 pm, with their events from 12:00 pm to 2:15 pm.
We would like to thank the parents who have volunteered to assist with the event already and for parents who are interested in helping, please fill out the form available through the link below. Please refer to the Compass event for more information. Thank you and looking forward to a good day!
IEPS Canteen Reminder
IEPS is powered by fantastic support from staff and volunteers. We’re placing a spotlight on some of the people behind the scenes who make things happen!
Meet Kim Hall, our Canteen Manager. Kim has been with IEPS for a year, working with hundreds of volunteers to help create and serve lunches and snacks to children.
‘It’s always good to have a chat and a laugh as we create meals and prepare orders. People can be nervous at the beginning but I always demonstrate what to do. It’s pretty straightforward and they quickly get the hang of what needs to be done.
As well as a group of regulars who help out week-to-week, there are grandparents who volunteer when they can and it’s great to see new Prep parents rolling up their sleeves.’
Head over to Instagram to read her story:- https://www.instagram.com/p/CuyDuBsP9UQ/?igshid=MjA3NmNkZWY5Yg==
Please consider volunteering when you have spare time (see link below, WWCC required). Or contact Kim with your questions - 03 9499 2171 / or email

Infectious Disease
We ask that if your child is symptomatic you do not send them to school and we thank you in advance as we acknowledge that this can be challenging, especially for working parents.
If your child does test positive for COVID-19 and/or any other infectious disease we ask you contact the school via email Ivanhoe.east.ps@education.vic.gov.au and it is recommended that they isolate for a minimum of 5 days and not attend school until their symptoms have resolved.
In relation to Covid-19 it is recommended that rapid antigen tests (RATs) are used by students and staff:
- If you have symptoms of COVID-19 infection, no matter how mild
- If you are a household or close contact of someone who has COVID-19
- If you are a social contact of someone who has COVID-19.
Rapid Antigen Tests are also available from the front office, please don’t hesitate to come in and collect as needed.

Book Week Character Parade - Wednesday 23 August 2023 - SAVE THE DATE
Book Week 2023
The theme for Book Week 2023 is “Read Grow Inspire”. The theme is focused on how literature has the capacity to develop a child's inner world and how it can plant the seed of inspiration for them to express their own creativity.
The dates for Book Week this year are from Saturday 19 August to Friday 25 August 2023. Each year, many schools and public libraries from all over Australia spend a week celebrating books and Australian authors and illustrators. We will soon begin this celebration in the library at IEPS with a display of the CBCA Shortlisted Books.
At IEPS we will be celebrating Book Week with a Book Week Character Parade for all students and staff. For our Book Week Character Parade, all students are encouraged to dress up as a favourite book character. Children are also encouraged to bring their book along to school with them if possible. If any students choose not to dress as a book character, they can wear their normal school uniform. Please note that the costume does not need to be too elaborate. We would encourage parents to use dress-up clothes from home for the event.
Parents are invited to attend the parade.
