**Last Day of Term 3 Friday 15th September – 2.30pm Finish**
**Canteen closed this Friday 15th September**
**Term 4 commences Monday 2nd October**
This week we will finish up at 2.30pm. We will feature our final IEPS News YouTube Channel for the term which will come out on Friday.
(There wil NOT be an onsite assembly this Friday. This change is due to our Footy Day on the last day of term).
We will be finishing at 2.30pm on Friday, therefore staff will finish their afternoon yard duty at 2.45pm. Please make sure arrangements are made for all students to be collected by 2.45pm at the latest, or they have been booked into OSHClub.
The school canteen will be closed this Friday.
Term 4 will commence on Monday 2nd October.
As we come toward the end of Term 3, I want to use this opportunity to reflect on the term that has been. This term our NAPLAN data was released and we were pleased with the following results;
• On average 89% of students recorded exceeding or strong results in Reading.
• On average 97% of students recorded exceeding or strong results in Writing.
• On average 83% of students recorded exceeding or strong results in Numeracy. This was on average in line with similar schools, 5% above network schools and 16% above the state average.
Unfortunatley though there was no Naplan growth data due to the new proficency bands which are not able to be compared to the previous bands.
• However our 12 month Teacher Judgement (Victorian Curriculum ) growth data from mid 2022 to mid 2023 across all 3 key learning areas being Reading, Writing and Numeracy showed 90% of students made at or above expected growth in their learning during that time.
We also conducted our Attitudes to School Survey with our Year 4-6 students. There is currently no similar school, network or state comparable data available, however the preliminary results show that Ivanhoe East Primary School’s AtoSS data showed that 100% of sections showed growth throughout the past 12 months on an average of 6% over across all 21 sections.
Throughout this term there were a wide range of learning opportunities for our students. The inquiry focus throughout term 3 was Geography across Year 1-6 and My Life, My History in Foundation.
• CERES & Bunnings support for our Environment committee to continue works across the school
• Inquiry & Community Walks
• Foundation 100 days of Foundation Celebration & Foundation Concert
• Supreme Incursions, Mini Boss Incursions, CERES Incursions & CSIRO guest speakers
• Foundation – Year 3 Melbourne United Basketball Clinic
• Year 3-6 House Athletics Carnival
• District & District Athletics
• Book Week Celebrations
• House Spirit Incursions
• Victorian State School Spectacular
• Australian Girls Choir
• Fathers & Special Persons Day
• We welcomed 5 International students to study at IEPS during Term 3
• Parent Teacher Interviews
• Coming Up: R U Ok Day and Footy Day
We thank our community for their ongoing support with their childs learning and we hope you all have an enjoyable time together over the school holidays.
September 14th – R U OK Day
Founded in 2009, R U OK Day was created to promote open conversation about mental health. This date allows people to share their struggles, and promotes the importance of checking in and supporting those around us. At a primary level, this is building student emotional understandings so that they are able to recognise what emotions they are having, what this emotion feels like physically in their body and building strategies to support themselves and those around them when they are feeling down. No one just naturally understands their own and other’s
emotions, this is a taught skill. IEPS will be acknowledging this date in our classrooms, as we share and reflect on ourselves.
September 21st – World Gratitude Day
While having some much needed R&R over the holidays, this date may be a great excuse to take solace in the positives in your life. IEPS will be saying thank you to its wonderful staff, kind families and great students that make this such a wonderful community to be a part of.
October 1st – International Day of Older Persons
The theme for this year is ‘The Resilience and Contributions of Older Women’. We all age and yet there is a common disrespect that occurs during this natural progression. This day encourages us to recognise the contributions older
people make to our society and our lives while acknowledging the issues that affect their lives. For women, their societal worth for some unknown reason seems to decline as they age. The theme for this year examines this and celebrates those women.
October 5th – International World Teacher’s Day
As we return from holidays, we say thank you to our wonderful teachers. IEPS is incredibly fortunate to have such hard working, compassionate and kind teachers. On International Teacher’s Day, we acknowledge the work these individuals do in inspiring and helping our children. As a community, we say thank you to our wonderful teachers and acknowledge the incredibly hard job they have.
Footy Day Reminder
State School Spectacular
After seven months of rehearsals including two full days of dress rehearsals on Thursday and Friday last week, the VSSS23 performances were on Saturday at John Cain Arena with two thousand plus state school students performing. Congratulations to all sixteen IEPS students involved in the Mass Dance. It was also great to see past IEPS students involved as principal vocalists, in the VSS Choir and tech crew. A huge thank you to Ashley Hamilton who was rehearsing and supporting the students throughout the year and a big thank you to Deb Carman and Amanda Dwyer for assisting at the dress reheasals.
Thanks also for the support of our families throughout the year, helping with transport, gathering costumes and being there to cheer us on. Channel Seven will broadcast the show on Saturday 9th of December.

House Winner Tharra House Term 2
This year IEPS have implemented a House Point System, which rewards students that display positive behaviour that aligns with our school values of Respect, Friendship, Curiosity and Resilience.
The winning house for Term 2 was Tharra House (Green House). The prize for the winning house is a Zooper Dooper for each student in Tharra. Students will receive their Zooper Dooper on the last day of Term 3.
Parents of children who have an allergy, intolerance or medical condition that is impacted by the consumption of food will be contacted by their child’s
classroom teacher with an alternative arrangement.
Uniform update
Spring Clean Out
Second hand uniforms are currently in high demand! If you haven’t started your uniform spring clean out yet, now is the perfect time!
Any size across the full range of our uniform is very welcome. Jumpers, jackets and t-shirts must be IEPS branded. School dresses, both winter and summer with white trim only are also accepted. As always, please ensure items are clean and free of stains and holes.
Donations can be dropped off in the red bin outside the sick bay any time or Monday and Friday mornings above the gym, (near the music room), at the Second Hand Uniform shop. All items to purchase are $5 each.
Uniform Swap Over
For the first time, we’d like to trial a uniform swap over. Visit the Second hand uniform shop on Monday and Friday mornings from 8.30-9.15am with your donation and you’re welcome to take something in its place.
The process will be reviewed at the end of term 4, and feedback from the IEPS community will be welcomed.
Lost Property
The lost property pile is still there and growing in size! There's an increasing number of named and unnamed items piled high on the table in front of the library.
Unfortunately, the school doesn’t have the resources to dedicate the time needed to sort through this ever-growing pile so we are calling upon individual families to please find time to look for any lost items as soon as possible.
At the end of the Term 3 (next Friday), lost property will be sent to the Second Hand Uniform Shop and anything unbranded or casual will be donated to charity.
Alternatively, any parent volunteers with time to sort through lost property are very welcome to contact the front office at any time to offer assistance. Grab a couple of friends and have a good catch up as you sort through it!
We also take this opportunity to thank those who have volunteered in the past.
Thank you for your understanding and assistance with this.
Infectious Disease
We ask that if your child is symptomatic you do not send them to school and we thank you in advance as we acknowledge that this can be challenging, especially for working parents.
Rapid Antigen Tests are also available from the front office, please don’t hesitate to come in and collect as needed.

Assistant Principal's Message - Smile Squad//Walk,Scoot,Ride Campaign
Smile Squad is coming to IEPS
Dear Ivanhoe East Primary School families,
The Smile Squad team from Banyule Community Health are coming to our school in term four.
Smile Squad is the Victorian Government free school dental program.
This means all students can get a free dental check-up, preventive services, and treatment at school.
How to access free dental care
We need your consent before we can provide services. Consent is usually provided by a parent or guardian.
Sign up to Smile Squad at: https://bit.ly/smilesquadvic
OR use the below QR code:
Please complete and submit the consent form by 13/10/2023.
The electronic consent form can be translated into more than 100 languages.
Smile Squad dental packs
All children deserve a healthy smile, and the Smile Squad free school dental program is working hard to help make sure this happens.
Your child(ren) will soon receive a free dental pack to bring home. The dental pack contains a toothbrush, full sized toothpaste, and an oral health brochure. Please take the time to read the brochure. It’s full of helpful hints and tips to help your whole family eat well, drink well and clean well – for life.
Smile Squad provides standard strength fluoride toothpaste that is generally used by ages six and over, unless recommended by a dental or trained health professional.
If your child is under six, please talk to a dental or trained health professional to find out if your child might benefit from using this toothpaste. You can also choose to put the toothpaste away until they turn six or give it to someone else in your family to use.
Do I need to attend my child’s appointment?
No, you do not need to attend your child’s appointment. You can attend if you would like to, and you can take your child to the community dental clinic if you prefer.
The Banyule Community Health Smile Squad look forward to seeing you soon.
Banyule Council Walk/Scoot/Ride Campaign
As you are already aware IEPS is currently participating in the walk, ride and scoot to school program. Throughout this program we strive to achieve students becoming more active in the way they arrive at school.
This program has begun and we look forward to it running over the next few weeks. Like last year we are tracking the amount that each student is riding, walking and scooting to school and promoting some healthy competition between classes.
Let’s hope we have some more nice sunny mornings and we see even more families walking/riding/scooting to school.
