Canteen Volunteers Required (Thursday & Friday)
Kim Hall our Canteen manager is asking for extra sets of hands on Thursday and/or Friday. These two days are our busiest times in the canteen and we are asking for volunteers to support the canteen. Days of Acknowledgement
Remembrance Day
Remembrance Day marks the date in 1918 when the First World War came to an end. It is officially observed at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month each year. Remembrance Day is marked by a pause at 11am on Saturday 11 November 2023 for a minute’s silence, to remember people's service and sacrifice. At IEPS we commemorated Remembrance Day on Friday 10th November where we had an outside assembly that involved Caitlin Furlong playing The Last Post accompanied by a moving speech.
Principal Advisory Group Update
In term 2, the PAG representatives held a casual clothes day with the theme, “Dress up as your favorite animal” to raise funds for the Australian Koala Foundation. As a school, we raised a total of $395.70. The PAG representatives went around to each classroom and students voted on which koala they would like to adopt. As a result, Ivanhoe East Primary School has adopted Jimmie Jams the joey for 12 months. A wonderful effort by the school and a big thank you to the PAG representatives for organising the fundraiser.
Wishing Tree
This term, the PAG representatives decided to choose a fundraiser that meant that other kids their age would not go without a Christmas time. They have chosen The Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal.
The Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal aims to create a brighter Christmas for Aussies experiencing hardship or crisis, through the delivery of gifts to those in need nationwide, including communities impacted by the cost of living. This fundraiser will run from Monday 20th of November until Wednesday the 13th of December. Some suggested gifts you can choose from:
- Books
- School supplies
- Headphones
- Everyday essentials for all ages, such as socks, bed linen and bath towels
- Gift cards
There will be a Christmas tree set up in the year 6 space where you can bring your unwrapped presents and place them under the tree either before school 8:45-8:55am or after school 3:30-3:40pm.
2023 Attitude to School Survey Data
This is a survey that focuses on student voice as a means to improving student engagement, wellbeing and quality instruction and this information is collated through students conducting a survey to find out what they think of their school. The AtoSS is an annual student survey offered by the Department of Education to assist schools to gain an understanding of students' perceptions and experience of school. Students will be asked about their thoughts and feelings in relation to their school, their learning, peer relationships, resilience, bullying, health and wellbeing, physical activity, and life in general.
Ivanhoe East Primary School’s AtoSS data improved on an average of 6% over the 21 sections in this survey. Some sections improved by as much as 10% and no sections had a negative result. Some sub sections improved by as much as 17% and 64 out of 68 (94%) sub sections improved (with the 4 that didn’t improve, it was only by an average of 1.5%).
We improved across our SSP targets by an average of 5.6% and improving on an average 9.3% across our AIP targets.
Each section improved from 2022 on an average of 8% and overall our results performed 3% better than similar schools and 2% better than Network and State. We have taken a deeper dive by running small group Q&A sessions with students to gain further insight into what changes can be made to improve areas that will be our focus moving forward as we are on a continuous improvement cycle.

Tuning in to Kids program
Recently, in the bulletin we highlighted our School Psychologist’s role at IEPS and the work that she and our wider teaching staff are doing around neurodiversity. In the article we mentioned the upcoming Tuning in to Kids Program that our School Psychologist Zoe Bloore and head nurse Hilda Hallinan, (who are both trained in presenting this program), will be running for FREE to IEPS parents/guardians in Term 1 of 2024. Usually the program costs $300 per person.
We have had a great initial response with over 30 families interested. If you are interested in participating in this program and haven’t already filled out the form, please find it attached below.

Procedure for Collecting Students During School Hours
On the back of a recent bulletin post, please find below a flowchart for our new and improved system of collecting students during school hours.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation with this and we hope this will lead to a timelier and more efficient process for parents and less of a load on our front office as well as not impact teaching time. I also ask that while we are transitioning to this new procedure you please remain respectful to our admin staff.
This term we will be continuing with fortnightly on-site assemblies, with the alternating week being an IEPS news episode. Below are the dates for our on-site assemblies;-
Furthermore, we have changed our student of the week process. We will be moving to a student of the fortnight where at least 1 student will be awarded with a ‘student of the week,’ recognition at assembly. At the conclusion of assembly those students will be invited to come up to the front of the gymnasium to get a group photo with Mr Boyle, which will be placed into the following bulletin, parents are also welcome to come up the front to take this photo as well.
