May 7th - International Family Equality (family pride) Day
There is only one rule amongst what a family should have; love. On this day, we celebrate the diversity of all families around the world. For all those families at IEPS who celebrate family pride day, we hope this day is full of love. We are very lucky in Australia to have equality for all families irrespective of the make up of their family, but on this day, we acknowledge that for some individuals and families they may not always feel this way. On this day kindness is at the forefront of our minds as we celebrate the make up of all families at IEPS and the wider community.

State School Spectacular
Our amazing Year 5 and 6 dancers had such a fun time at the Victorian State School Spectacular mass dance rehearsal this week, along with 8 other schools in our region! Everyone gave it their all as they finished learning 6 entire dances for the show, and they are to be congratulated on their professionalism and focus during the rehearsals. All that practice is paying off already! The performance will be held at John Cain Arena on Saturday 14th September (tickets will go on sale in the coming months) and will be broadcast on national television in December. The theme for this year’s show is ‘Splash’ and we can’t wait to see our 16 dancers perform with over 1,000 other students in the arena. In the meantime, happy dancing VSSS24 crew!
Education Week Open Morning
As part of Education Week we will be welcoming all members of the IEPS community into our classrooms to see our engaging Numeracy games that are part of our pedagogical model. Please save the date and we look forward to welcoming you onsite on Thursday 23rd of May.

Health Update
We are ensuring the removal of any mushrooms we observe on school grounds during the Autumn growth period, as outlined below. This follows the health advisory issued by the Victorian Department of Health Chief Health Officer on Friday 5 April 2024 about the danger of eating potentially poisonous mushrooms. These include death cap mushrooms and yellow-staining mushrooms, which grow in both metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria. Please see images of these 2 mushrooms below.
The toxin in death cap mushrooms remains even after cooking, peeling or drying. If eaten, poisoning can cause nausea, stomach cramps and/or long-term liver damage that may result in death. Yellow-staining mushrooms look similar to field mushrooms sold in supermarkets but can be harmful if eaten. Symptoms experienced if eaten can include nausea, stomach cramps, vomiting and diarrhoea. The severity of symptoms varies with the amount eaten.
What to do if you find mushrooms on school grounds
Do not pick or eat wild mushrooms. Please let the front office know immediately:
While wearing gloves, we will pick and remove any mushrooms and carefully place mushrooms and used gloves in a bag and put it in a closed rubbish bin. If mushrooms are found on school grounds, we will submit a hazard immediately.
Assembly Update

The Northside Parents Battle Of the Bands is back for its 2nd year!
https://youtu.be/COcp4dcz9cM?feature=shared
It will be held over two EPIC nights at Northcote’s iconic live music venue, the Northcote Social Club on the 31st July & 8th August, 2024.
To avoid disappointment, get in early and book your tickets as they sold out very quickly last year.
The Ivanhoe East PS Parents Band “Lost Property" is participating with 8 other local primary schools including Northcote Primary, Brunswick South Primary, Brunswick East Primary, North Melbourne Primary, Westgarth Primary, Fairfield Primary, Wales Street Primary & Preston South Primary.
The ticket sales proceeds are donated back to expand the performing arts/music education programs and help improve facilities for participating schools. It is also a great opportunity to connect with the different school communities and have a lot of fun. All monies will be redistributed pro-rata of parents’ attendance/number of tickets sold by each school.
The real winners are the schools that sell the most tickets! It is a fun night of great music and quality entertainment - legendary if you ask previous crowds!
Head over to @parents_battle_of_the_bands on Instagram and Facebook to see what the fuss is about AND click on the ticket link where you can select your school:
