Days of Acknowledgement
July 7–14 – NAIDOC Week
On the first week of June each year, we recognize and celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn more about First Nations culture and history. Although this celebration occurs during the holidays, it will be acknowledged within the IEPS community through classroom activities when we return in term 3.
July 12 – Malala Day
This date is in honor of Nobel peace prize recipient, Malala Yousafzai. It is the date of her birthday and pays respect to such a young individual who has spent her life fighting for the rights of women and children in receiving equal educational opportunities.
Term 3 Cohort Newsletters & School Calendar
Classroom teachers are currently updating our term planner with events, and these will be finalised for our school calendar on Thursday. Toni Kearney will do a bulk upload on Thursday, so as of Friday this week we will have all current events for Term 3 available for our community members to sync to their personal calendars. Cohort specific Term Newsletters will be sent to families on Monday 15th of July (which is a Curriculum day) via Compass and a hardcopy given to students on the first Tuesday back.
Region Cross Country – Update
On Wednesday the 19th June, five students from IEPS competed in the Region Cross Country event. Congratulations to all the students involved, and a special mention to Heidi M (1st), Indi W (3rd), and Angelica V (6th), who will now represent IEPS at the State competition on the 18th July. Wishing all our runners the best of luck at State!
EOFY Building Fund and Library Fund donations before 30th June 2024
Dear Parents and Carers,
We hope this message finds you well. As we approach the end of the financial year, we would like to extend an invitation for you to support our school's development by making a tax-deductible contribution to our Building and/or Library Fund.
Your generosity can make a significant difference in enhancing our school environment. Contributions to the Library Fund will enable us to acquire new books, furniture, and library essentials, enriching the educational resources available to our students.
Meanwhile, donations to the Building Fund will directly contribute to essential upgrades, such as installing new air conditioning units in the junior building and renovating the main building's staff female toilets. These improvements are crucial for maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for our students, staff, and visitors alike.
Your support matters - and any amount you can give will be greatly appreciated.
Casual Clothes Day (Tomorrow – Thursday 27th of June)
On Thursday 27th June the whole school is encouraged to dress up in casual clothes to support the RSPCA. We ask that you bring a gold coin donation to support this charity.

House Spirit Morning: Building Teamwork and Fun - Friday 28th of June
This is a reminder our house captains will be running a House Spirit Morning this Friday the 28th of June, right here at school. This event is a great opportunity for students to spend time in their houses and engage in team-building activities.
Students are encouraged to wear their house colours and participate in four different activities including yoga, dancing, party games and a range of obstacle courses. The goal is to bring our houses together, promote teamwork, and have some fun.
As this event is onsite, specific event permission is not required. We look forward to seeing everyone in their house colours, ready to enjoy the day and work together as a team.
Please note: Should inclement weather arise this event will be rescheduled to early term 3.
Last Onsite Assembly of Term 2
This Friday we will be having an assembly at 2.00 pm, before students are dismissed at 2.30 pm. This assembly will be hosted by some of our house captains and will be a recap of the house spirit day. Students will be dismissed from their line up area at 2.30 pm, weather permitting.
We welcome parent attendance.
Spotlight On IEPS Policies
This week we encourage you to familiarise yourself with our Homework Policy, located under the policy heading on our website.
IEPS has developed this Homework Policy in consultation with the School Council to support student learning and wellbeing by:
- providing opportunities for students to review, revise and reinforce newly acquired skills
- providing opportunities for students to apply new knowledge
- providing opportunities for students to prepare for future lessons
- encouraging students to enrich or extend knowledge individually, collectively and imaginatively
- fostering good lifelong learning and study habits
- supporting learning partnerships with parents/carers.
The homework expectations will be communicated to families through the termly year level newsletter. Families will also receive communication via Compass, if a specific project or research-based task is to be implemented. Students will be provided with Reading, Spelling and Mathletics tasks.
IEPS understands that students have different learning strengths, preferences and interests and may approach learning activities and homework differently. If parents/carers are concerned their child may not understand the homework tasks that have been set or is spending a long period of time completing their homework, we encourage parents/carers to speak to their child’s teacher.

ABOUT THE MS READATHON
Reading can take kids on incredible journeys of discovery, awaken their imagination, and build confidence. It’s always a good time to help them find inspiration and motivation to pick up a book. The MS Readathon has been inspiring kids to read more for 45 years, and this August, it will be more fun than ever before. We have authors and ambassadors who can share their stories, incentives, and prizes to motivate kids. If that is not enough, all the money raised will help support the thousands of families affected by MS in Australia. We have so many stories to share about how the MS Readathon makes a huge difference to people living with MS.
HELP GET MORE KIDS READING
Last year Aussie kids read more than 181,903 books and this August we want to see more kids reading more books! Kids can read anything, including comics, magazines, novels, or read-along with audiobooks. We don’t mind as long as they are reading. Parents can register their kids for FREE. Once registered, they can log books through their online dashboard, earn badges, review books, and share their progress. They can also join a school.
KIDS HELPING KIDS
There are thousands of families living with MS in Australia. You can find out more about MS and the impact it can have on people's lives. All funds raised from the MS Readathon will help fund vital support and services, which include Help Lines available across the Country, MS Nursing, in-home care, speech therapy and physio, Family Fun Days including resources for kids. MS Family Fun Days are in huge demand, for these families it is a rare chance to have a fun time, connect with other families, with all the care and support their family needs.
