Days of Acknowledgement
August 2nd – Principals Day
On Principals Day IEPS would like to say a massive thank you to Assistant Principals; Amanda Dwyer and Ben Phillips. They go above and beyond and work incredibly hard to help make the IEPS community such a strong and special school. If you see them, please give them your thanks! They steer our ship with compassion, logic and a view for the needs of all our students at IEPS.
August 4th - National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day
The theme ‘strong in culture, stronger together’ promotes coming together to share and connect. Culture builds our understanding of the world around us, it helps us understand ourselves, our history and our beliefs. On this day we acknowledge the incredible power that Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander children have with this connection to community and land. IEPS promotes these voices and ensures that every student feels they belong.
IEPS School Crossings & Warncliffe Road Safety
It has come to our attention that many students and families are not adhering to general road safety, particularly at school pick up. As a general rule, you should always cross the road at the designated school crossing. When crossing, walk straight across the road. Keep LOOKING and LISTENING for traffic while crossing.
It is recommended that children aged 5 to 12 years are supervised while crossing the road and it is important parents and carers role model this behaviour.
There have been recent reports of:-
- Students riding their bikes across the school crossing
- Students bouncing balls whilst using the school crossing
- Students kicking balls across the school crossing (when asked to stop bouncing their ball)
- Parents calling for their child to run across the road in front of traffic and not using the school crossing
We would greatly appreciate it if you would please refer to the link below and sit down with your child/children to read through expected pedestrian & road safety.
https://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/safety-and-road-rules/pedestrian-safety/crossing-the-road-safely
We appreciate your cooperation with this so we can keep our students and community safe.

Ivanhoe East Football Team – Division Update
On Monday, the 22nd of July, the Ivanhoe East Primary School football team competed at the Division competition held at Banyule Football Club.
In the first game, we faced off against Viewbank Primary. Despite a strong effort from our team, Viewbank got an early jump, kicking 4 goals in the first half. To Ivanhoe East's credit, we played much better football in the second half, holding them scoreless. However, we ultimately went down by 4 goals.
The second game was against Watsonia North Primary. Both teams were evenly matched, and it was a tight contest throughout. Ivanhoe East Primary School held on to win the game by 2 points, finishing second in the Division overall.
As they have demonstrated all season, the team worked cohesively, putting in effort for their teammates and exhibiting excellent teamwork. The day was filled with notable performances and a strong sense of sportsmanship. Congratulations to all the players for their effort and determination!
Ivanhoe East - District Basketball Tournament Update
On Friday, the 19th of July, Ivanhoe East Primary School participated in the annual Ivanhoe District Basketball tournament held at Ivanhoe Grammar. We proudly sent both a boys and girls team to compete.
Both teams performed extremely well, winning all but one of their games in their respective pools and making it to the finals. The Ivanhoe East boys faced Buckley House in the semi-final and, despite a hard-fought match, were narrowly defeated.
The Ivanhoe East girls made it through to the Grand final, where they faced Ivanhoe Primary. In an exceptional effort, they narrowly lost by just 2 points, a remarkable improvement from their earlier match against the same team where they were defeated by 15 points.
The students had a lot of fun and represented the school with pride and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. A big thank you to the parents and supporters who came along to spectate and cheer on our teams.
Congratulations to all the players for their dedication and fantastic performances! Go, Ivanhoe East Primary!
Schools Tree Day Reflection
Thank you to all students at IEPS who participated in Schools Tree Day last Thursday! We had a very successful day, even with all the different weather events in the one day.
We were able to plant one plant for every single class, which was wonderful to see! We planted at three different locations around the school: Warncliffe Road, the ramp near the canteen and the ramp near the oval.
We look forward to seeing more planting days with the Environment Committee this year.

ABOUT THE MS READATHON
Reading can take kids on incredible journeys of discovery, awaken their imagination, and build confidence. It’s always a good time to help them find inspiration and motivation to pick up a book. The MS Readathon has been inspiring kids to read more for 45 years, and this August, it will be more fun than ever before. We have authors and ambassadors who can share their stories, incentives, and prizes to motivate kids. If that is not enough, all the money raised will help support the thousands of families affected by MS in Australia. We have so many stories to share about how the MS Readathon makes a huge difference to people living with MS.
HELP GET MORE KIDS READING
Last year Aussie kids read more than 181,903 books and this August we want to see more kids reading more books! Kids can read anything, including comics, magazines, novels, or read-along with audiobooks. We don’t mind as long as they are reading. Parents can register their kids for FREE. Once registered, they can log books through their online dashboard, earn badges, review books, and share their progress. They can also join a school.
KIDS HELPING KIDS
There are thousands of families living with MS in Australia. You can find out more about MS and the impact it can have on people's lives. All funds raised from the MS Readathon will help fund vital support and services, which include Help Lines available across the Country, MS Nursing, in-home care, speech therapy and physio, Family Fun Days including resources for kids. MS Family Fun Days are in huge demand, for these families it is a rare chance to have a fun time, connect with other families, with all the care and support their family needs.
