Days of Acknowledgement
September 1st – Father’s and Special Person's Day
On Sunday we will spend our day thinking about those who have cared for us as we grow up. This day allows us to show our appreciation to people who often sacrifice their own time or happiness to help us feel our best. Some of us may spend this day with those special loved ones; their father, grandparent, aunt, singular parent or a friend while others of us spend our times with the memories of these loved ones.
From IEPS we say thank you for everything you do dads and special people. We could not be the tremendous individuals we are without you.
September 1st – Wattle Day
Wattle, a native flower and our national floral emblem is used to celebrate and acknowledge that we are all connected. On this first day of spring, Wattle day celebrates our mutual respect for one another and sense of community. On this day we also pay our respects to the traditional owners of the land and acknowledge their continued connection to land, air, water and community on which we live.
Hilda Hallinan Staffing Update - Good bye & Good Luck!
Sadly, today is the day we farewell our school nurse, Hilda Hallinan.
We thank you for your 17 years of service dedicated to caring for the health, wellbeing and welfare of all of our IEPS students past and present. Your time with us has been invaluable.
We wish you continued success in your next endeavour.
Good bye and good luck from all of the IEPS community.
Final Reminder for 2024 Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey (Closes Friday 30th August)
As you may be aware our school is conducting the annual Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey and is seeking your feedback. The survey, offered by the Department of Education, is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement.
Last week on Wednesday afternoon we re-sent all parents listed as ‘Parent A’ on Compass an invitation with their unique code to complete the survey via email from Carmel Sitilidis. If you have misplaced this, please reach out and we can resend this invitation to you.
Your opinions are important to us and will contribute to celebrating areas of success and identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies. The department will use the results from the survey for research purposes and to improve outcomes for students.
We currently only have 30% of our community that have responded. As you can see below the %'s of representation in each year level are quite low. I strongly encourage you to complete this survey before Friday. It can be completed on any device and only takes roughly 20 minutes.
Thank you in advance.
2025 Enrolments (Important Information)
As per the Department's timeline, enrolments have now closed for 2025. If you are wanting to enrol your child for 2025 please contact Carmel Sitilidis our Enrolment Coordinator as a matter of urgency to discuss further.

Victorian Principal Association Conference
Being a ‘lead learner’ who models the importance of professional learning and continuing to build upon your knowledge and skills in education is something that I aim to instil in all educators, especially our staff here at IEPS. The power of this is done by modeling the above and most recently the principal class at IEPS attended the Annual VPA Leadership Conference, themed "Our Communities, Our Schools," on August 22-23 at the Crown Promenade.
This lens that we took into this conference was directly related to our context here at Ivanhoe East Primary and focusing on our new strategic plan in line with a relentless focus on continuous improvement through incremental change in differentiation and engagement. The conference emphasised the power of communities in supporting the continued growth in student results and highlighted that this occurs within and beyond our gates.
The discussions and insights from speakers such as Mark Carter on the future of school leadership, Kieran Flanagan on adaptability, and Nathan Wallis on the importance of early childhood environments were particularly relevant as we strive to continue to promote a community effort, meaning all key stakeholders involvement in improving student outcomes. These sessions reinforced the need for innovative and adaptable approaches, which resonated with our teaching methods here at IEPS that focus on meeting the diverse needs of all students.
The conference also underscored the importance of leadership that is 'future fit,' an idea presented by Gihan Perera. This concept is crucial as we aim to lead Ivanhoe East Primary into the future with a focus on continuous improvement and excellence.
Incorporating the lessons from this conference into our strategic plan will continue to ensure that we continue to provide high-quality education, fostering an environment where all students are engaged and supported to achieve their best.

Exploring Emotions Through Art: A Rainbow of Feelings
During Art lessons, students from all year levels have delved into the fascinating world of emotions through visual art. Our primary goal has been to deepen our understanding of emotions. By creating art that embodies a ‘Rainbow of Feelings’, we aim to cultivate empathy, encourage self-expression and foster stronger connections within our school community.
During the Rainbow of Feelings unit, Year 3 to 6 students explored various pairs of emotions, using them as inspiration for their artistic creations. This has allowed them to authentically express themselves through different art mediums of their choice. Similarly, Prep to Year 2 students focused on facial expressions, body posture, colour, line and texture to create artworks that capture a range of feelings.
We are excited to showcase the series of upcoming art displays throughout the main school building this term. These exhibitions will showcase the diverse spectrum of emotions explored by our students, reflecting self-discovery and creativity.
We welcome our community to celebrate this demonstration of artistic expression and emotional exploration by viewing some of our Rainbow of Feelings displays in our main building breezeway from Week 5 (12th August).
- Week 5 – 7 (12th to 30th August) Love/Pride & Scared/Worried
- Week 8 - 10 (2nd to 20th September) Excited/Happy & Angry/Frustrated
