Welcome Back
Welcome back to Term 4! We trust that everyone had an enjoyable and restful school holiday. It has been wonderful to see so many smiling faces at the front gate over the past two days, and we are thrilled at how seamlessly our students have transitioned back into their classroom learning, full of enthusiasm and excitement.
We have an exciting term ahead with plenty of opportunities for learning and engagement. Tomorrow, we will celebrate World Inclusion Day, and throughout the term, we will have Foundation and Year 1 & 2 swimming lessons, incursions across all year levels, as well as Division Basketball and Regional Athletics for our sports stars. We are also preparing for our 2025 Foundation Transition and Step Up Days, ensuring a smooth transition for all students into next year, including our Year 6 students as they prepare for high school. Other highlights this term include our School Disco, Year 6 Cricket Tournament, Year 4 and Year 5 Camps, the Whole School Inquiry Expo, Tabloid Sports Day, and Graduation. Let's not forget the Melbourne Cup Long Weekend, which will provide a well-earned break before we dive into the second half of the term.
We look forward to sharing a fun-filled term with lots of high-level learning and engagement in both classrooms and these exciting activities. Here’s to a fantastic Term 4!
Days of Acknowledgement & Important Awareness
World Inclusion Day
World Inclusion Day is held on October 11 (Australian Time). It is a day dedicated to ensuring that individuals of various abilities, backgrounds, ages, races, religions, genders, and other characteristics are accepted, welcomed, and treated fairly. World Inclusion Day will honor the togetherness of diverse individuals, all of whom feel appreciated and included. The sense of belonging will be celebrated on World Inclusion Day. People feel appreciated, valued, and honored for who they are when they are included. Inclusion allows us to build a society that is more compassionate, welcoming, respectful, and united. Small acts of kindness and inclusion influence the world and the people we interact with. IEPS will be acknowledging this day through in-class activities tomorrow that promote everyone being able to be involved and participate and focusing on the sense of community at IEPS, with the notion that no matter our differences we are all connected and celebrated for who we are as individuals and that when we work together we achieve a lot more success than when we work in isolation.
October – Walk to School Month
This initiative was created to encourage healthy and active lifestyles. Being active assists our mental health, our mood and self-esteem and our connection to community. During this month IEPS will not be acknowledging this formally but we promote students enjoying the spring weather – whether this be walking to and from school, participating in sport or simply playing outside and enjoying the sunny weather.
A rare disease changed Archie’s life
The funding of Rare Genetic Disease is the goal at Archie’s Embrace. It’s little Archie that keeps us motivated everyday to make a difference in the lives of those with a rare genetic disease. Driving us to find and fund research to improve their quality of life!
It’s with the support of our followers and community, that we are able to fund research and bring awareness and recognition, to rare genetic diseases in children ?

Ivanhoe East Primary School Case Study on Student Wellbeing
At Ivanhoe East Primary School, we have made exceptional use of Pivot to enhance student social and emotional wellbeing and learning, setting a benchmark that has led to Pivot conducting a case study on our innovative practices. Our commitment to student growth is embedded in our use of Pivot’s tools to gain actionable feedback, which allows us to create a safe, supportive, and effective learning environment.
Our approach goes beyond simply gathering data - we actively use it to inform targeted interventions, build student agency, and shape a whole-school culture of wellbeing. By regularly engaging students in feedback cycles, we foster an inclusive atmosphere where every voice matters, promoting reflection and continuous improvement for both staff and students. This commitment to using data for meaningful change has been recognized as exemplary by Pivot, who chose to document our practices through their case study.
Through this partnership, we have demonstrated how focusing on student wellbeing leads to improved engagement, emotional resilience, and academic success. Our collaboration with Pivot underscores our dedication to prioritising both the social and emotional development of our students, ensuring their readiness to thrive in all areas of school life.
We encourage you to read through the case study featured below:

Communication of Events Update
IEPS has developed clear communication timelines for whole school events, cross year level events, and camps.
It showcases the multiple stages of event planning and parent engagement through various channels, including Compass (for event forms, payments, and consents) and WhatsApp (for reminders).
Key points include:
• The timeline begins up to a year prior to an event (camps) with booking and risk assessments.
• Different communication points are scheduled, such as sending out payment and consent forms, requesting parent volunteers, and providing general event information.
• Reminders are given through WhatsApp closer to the event and during the week of events.
• During camps, daily updates are shared via Seesaw or Compass, with ETA alerts for parents about return times.
This streamlined approach emphasises multiple communication channels (Compass, WhatsApp, Seesaw) to keep parents well-informed and involved at each stage of school events.
Parent Requests for Class Placements (Closes Next Friday 18th of October)
As we plan for 2025, we are currently working on class structures and ensuring the best learning environment for every student. Parents may request their child to be with (or not with) another student based on educational needs or if there has been a past incident or negative history with another student. This could include requests to separate close friends to encourage focus or new friendships.
Please note, while we will consider all requests, we cannot guarantee that every request will be met. The process of class placement involves many factors, and once classes are finalised, there will be no changes.
Parents are invited to submit requests via email to tom.boyle@education.vic.gov.au by 5 pm on Friday, 18th October. Requests received after this deadline will not be considered due to the complexity of the process. For more details, refer to our class placements policy on our website.
Thank you for your understanding and support during this important time.

This year, we have set an important goal: to raise funds to resurface our outdoor basketball court, a space that plays a vital role in the lives of our students and community members. The cost of this process is ballparked at $100,000 so we are well aware that it is going to be no easy feat to achieve this.
We would like to invite you and your family to support this initiative by making a donation through this fundraising page.
Every contribution, no matter the size, will help us create a safer and more enjoyable environment for everyone.
