Days of Acknowledgement & Important Awareness
October 13th – 22nd – Earth Science Week
Earth Science week was created to ignite individuals’ curiosity of the world around them while building an understanding of why it is so important to cherish our natural environment. This years theme ‘Earth Science Everywhere’ encourages everyone to explore how natural resources are used in our daily lives and opens the conversation of conservation and respect for our limited natural resources.
Communication with Classroom Teachers re: Student Pick-up/arrangements
I would like to bring to your attention that the expectation at IEPS is that parents communicate with their child’s classroom teacher as to the afternoon arrangements if they are different to their normal routines. Example of this would be:
- If another parent is picking your child up outside of their approved nominees on Compass or regular arrangements
- If your child is attending after school activities (eg. Netball, Kelly sports for their first time, or they require support to find this activity when it is onsite
We also ask that you update your child’s bookings at OSHClub if they have changed as if they are rostered to attend, we are required to take them to OSHClub.
Thank you in advance with your support in regards to the above matter.
Smile Squad
The Smile Squad team from Banyule Community Health are coming to our school soon. Smile Squad is the Victorian Government free school dental program. This means ALL students can get a free dental check-up, preventive services, and treatment at school.
How to access free dental care
We need your consent before we can provide services. Consent is usually provided by a parent or guardian.

WWCC Compliance at IEPS
The Department of Education has recently made some changes to the Child Safety standards around parent volunteers and working with children cards (WWCC).
Every volunteer, parent helper, contractor to the school MUST provide to the school:
- A valid WWC to be placed on file (including the letter as per the next point)
- A letter of confirmation from the Department of Justice & Community Safety with WWCC details AND the name of our school (IEPS) listed on it (**access your MyCheck account to update your details to include the name of the school - this can take up to 21 days. This letter will automatically be generated and sent to the school on your behalf. NB**Please check with the office staff to see if we already have a letter on file)
Basically, if we do not have the letter on file with our school listed on it, a valid card is no longer enough. We are giving everyone 6 weeks for this to be in place, therefore as of Monday 2nd of December, unless you have the letter of confirmation identifying IEPS you will not be able to volunteer.
We acknowledge the extra steps involved may cause some inconvenience and we thank you in advance for adhering to the new requirements.

Parent Requests for Class Placements (Closes this Friday 18th of October 5pm)
As we plan for 2025, we are currently working on class structures and ensuring the best learning environment for every student. Parents may request their child to be with (or not with) another student based on educational needs or if there has been a past incident or negative history with another student. This could include requests to separate close friends to encourage focus or new friendships.
Please note, while we will consider all requests, we cannot guarantee that every request will be met. The process of class placement involves many factors, and once classes are finalised, there will be no changes.
Parents are invited to submit requests via email to tom.boyle@education.vic.gov.au by 5 pm on Friday, 18th October. Requests received after this deadline will not be considered due to the complexity of the process. For more details, refer to our class placements policy on our website.
Thank you for your understanding and support during this important time.

The Division Girls Basketball played Rosanna Golf Links and Watsonia North PS.
We lost to Watsonia and won against Watsonia North. It was a few tough games but the girls did so well. Their enthusiasm, team work and motivation to succeed outshone any final score. Their bond and support of each other made all of IEPS so proud.
Well done girls!

This year, we have set an important goal: to raise funds to resurface our outdoor basketball court, a space that plays a vital role in the lives of our students and community members. The cost of this process is ballparked at $100,000 so we are well aware that it is going to be no easy feat to achieve this.
We would like to invite you and your family to support this initiative by making a donation through this fundraising page.
Every contribution, no matter the size, will help us create a safer and more enjoyable environment for everyone.
