Greetings everyone;
It continues to be a challenge with lockdowns on the horizons for at least another week. The announcement that Regional would join us with the same restrictions was quite sudden and implemented very quickly . Giving the community reasonable notice to changes would be something I am sure we would hope for from our elected officials.
We have had a question about students receiving feedback on their work fired through to my desk. Firstly, I would like to thank the parent for that question. The structure of our remote program is such that we provide opportunities for teacher -student feedback throughout the sessions. The small group sessions that run throughout the school are specifically designed for this. Many teachers also use the end of the day check ins to have these sort of conversations. Once again this is as close as we can get to replicating how this is done in our usual classroom learning environment.
Thank you also to our specialist team and ES team members who continue to support our on-site program. They do this work as well as updating new specialist sessions and resources on the school blog.
It is apparent that our planned Art Show will have to be postponed for the moment - Larrissa, Jayne and I are all disappointed as we were really keen to see it go ahead. But in the spirit of resilience we will look at a way to go ahead in some way, shape or form in Term 4.
An interesting person
Here is an interesting person to listen to or read about; Esther Wojcicki. She is a parent and former teacher who talks about the value of building Trust, Respect, Independence, Collaboration, and Kindness with people, schools and organisations.
Her focus in this time of high anxiety is to relax, enable students to pick their own projects related to their own passions and to the real world, and provide them with the independence to discover the steps to complete them. Above all, let children lead, whilst remaining a guide on the side.
Ivanhoe East has done a lot of work on this sort of concept under the umbrella of Student Voice and Agency. Our Inquiry work pretty much follows this gameplan and from what I have seen works very well. Anyway, if you get the time put Esther Wojcicki into google search and have a bit of a read.
