Greetings all in the IEPS community
Last week NAPLAN results were issued to parents at our school. I would like to provide a brief overview of how our students went in the last NAPLAN tests.
NAPLAN creates an absolute welter of information, data and statistics however, in this weeks’ edition I will focus on a couple of key parameters.
For schools such as ours, performances are probably best considered against similar schools. That is, schools with similar location, socio economic characteristics and school size. For all results we performed better than the state and that is totally to be expected.
Across the Grade 3 and Grade 5 results, we matched or bettered similar schools in Reading and Numeracy. This was reflected in both the number of students achieving above expected and the small number of students achieving below the benchmarks. This is a very pleasing outcome and is testimony to the work that has been carried out over the last few years in these two areas. Writing, Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation had some strong overall outcomes as well when compared to similar schools.
The second measure that I would like to comment on is Learning Growth. This indicates how much progress students make between Grade 3 and Grade 5 in all the subject areas. The results are categorised into high growth, medium growth and low growth. Any result where the combined totals of high and medium growth is above 75% is usually pretty good. For our Grade 5 students (only measured in Grade 5);
Reading above 75 -85%
Writing well above 75% -85%
Spelling below 65- 75%
Numeracy 85+%
Grammar and Punctuation 75-85%
These are very strong results especially in Numeracy. Our students, staff and families should be proud of these achievements
