Principal Position
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your warm welcome since I started here at IEPS. I have really enjoyed my time here so far and I feel excited and honoured that my tenure here at IEPS has been extended until December 31st, 2022. I am looking forward to continuing to work with all IEPS stakeholders to collectively drive our Annual Implementation Plan for 2022. The key focuses for 2022 are:
- Learning - Support both those who need extra support and those who have thrived to continue to extend their learning
- Wellbeing - Effectively mobilise available resources to support students' wellbeing and mental health, especially the most vulnerable
- Build partnerships within and beyond the school to enhance student engagement.
Prior to the end of this year I will be sharing a feedback survey with our community. I strongly encourage you to fill this out when it becomes available.
I hope you all have an enjoyable Christmas and I look forward to seeing you all in the new year.
Reports
Reports became available via Compass on Monday morning. You would have noticed that these reports are different to the Semester One reports. The DET reporting guidelines state that requirements for student reporting in Semester 2 2021 have been adjusted to reflect COVID-19 disruptions. Due to remote learning occurring all of Term 3 and half of Term 4, the curriculum comments are related to what curriculum has been covered. However each student has still been individually assessed against the Victorian Curriculum based on the learning tasks that they have completed and this is acknowledged in their progression points. We are hoping that 2022 will bring less disruptions to student learning and therefore we will be able to provide more individualised curriculum comments.
Covid update
I would like to thank our community for their understanding and support in relation to our covid safe measures that we have in place here at IEPS. We take pride in doing everything we can to keep our community safe, especially with Christmas fast approaching. I would like to also thank all our Year 2 families for their prompt response to a positive case in their cohort on Sunday. Their diligence to this has meant that there were only 3 cases in total and they were all in isolation as of Sunday. Therefore, we have had no further exposure this week and we are looking forward to ending the year covid free. I do appreciate that this is an ever-evolving situation and that the wider community is able to move quite freely. However due to primary schools being predominately an unvaccinated environment we want to assure our community that our cautious approach is not only based on the DET guidelines but also based on an emphasis to keep our community safe.
Parent Payments
Tomorrow morning you will receive a Compass notification with an attachment letter detailing the 2022 parent contributions for your child's schooling next year. The Department have again made some changes to the overall policy and these changes will be outlined in that attachment. Please note payments can’t be processed until the new year for accounting purposes and we greatly appreciate the contributions made by parents, as it allows us to enhance the programs we offer. IEPS currently provides learning support, four specialist programs, a fully resourced library and a comprehensive curriculum that includes a full array of camps, excursions, incursions, and extra-curricular opportunities. In addition, we provide all the technology your child will need including notebooks, iPads, learning applications and other devices. Finally, your voluntary contributions also ensures that we can provide a school nurse program and maintain and improve our school grounds, which ultimately offers your child a safe place to learn and play. As always, we appreciate your support.
Cyber Safety
Primary school aged students require significant skill development to be able to recognise and use the social etiquette of online communication appropriately, hence why most applications have age restrictions. Many applications guidelines clearly state that to use their service you must be of a certain age as well as not defame, harass, threaten, impersonate or intimidate people or entities and you must not post private or confidential information via their social media services.
Students may also be unaware that any online behaviour leaves a ‘digital footprint’ or ‘digital tattoo’ and information, once displayed online, can potentially be accessed at any time, by anyone, even when accounts are closed and forgotten.
We respectfully ask that if your child has access to social media/application you discuss the above with them and reinforce to them the ‘maturity’ required to access social media. We also ask that you moderate their use and make sure all security and privacy settings are in place.
Use of school grounds out of school hours/visit from Heidelberg Police
Since high school has recently concluded we have had some high school students riding up and down Robinhood road during school time. On occasion they have tried to interact with our students during recess/lunchtime. The Heidelberg Police came to check in with the school as there had been reports from neighbours regarding a group of teenagers loitering. Our grounds can be used outside of school hours by any member of the public, the one thing we ask is that the school environment is respected. As there has been issues during previous school holidays I ask that you continue contacting the police anytime you see or hear anything suspicious on the school grounds
I wish you all a very happy and joyful Christmas and a safe new year. Looking forward to seeing you all in 2022

Dear Parents/Carers,
A reminder that in line with current directions from the Victorian Chief Health Officer, masks are compulsory indoors for students in grades 3 to 6 unless a lawful exception applies and strongly recommended for students in Prep to Grade 2.
Students are required to provide their own masks for use at school and we would ask that they also have spares in their bag just in case the mask is misplaced or damaged throughout the day.
Thank you for your understanding.
